Those Also Serve Who Stand and Wait  by Haleth 2 Review(s)

This is very well done. Very little is written about this lassie, the sister of Fingolfin and Finarfin. Very insightful peek into her life and psyche.

Love the title. Isn't it from the last line of Milton's sonnet on Blindness?

Looking forward to reading more works by your hand.

Author Reply: Thank-you. She is a very obscure character. I imagine that her story would be very interesting; the Silmarillion from a woman's point of view.

And yes, the title is from the last line of Milton's sonnet. It should be they also serve, not those also serve.

I like this; I think there were many who must have felt as Lalwen did here, that they followed Feanor loyally and faithfully, but to destruction and sorrow and death. The golden life she left is gone, and all that remains is a shell that sits in loneliness.

Author Reply: Thank-you. I've always wondered how the Exiles who returned to Tol Eressea felt about their lives and all they had lost. Tolkien never explicitly said that they were ever allowed to return to Aman, but I imagine that it would have been very difficult. They would have been constantly surrounded by reminders of the people they had lost. It's the elvish equivalent of 'you can't go home again'.
