What's Right Before You  by Tom Fairbairn 11 Review(s)

this was an endearing look into Pippin's mindset while climbing to the beacon. I liked the flashback to when he learned to climb. Aragorn's reaction to learning he lit the beacon was uplifting and endearing. And finding that it was Frodo who taught him to climb, well, that did something to me, though I'm not sure what. Went straight to my heart, though. All I could think of was all the climbing Frodo was doing right then! And how Frodo continued to touch all of them, even when apart from them. wonderful piece.

Pippin's philosophy seems very hobbitty to me - living in the moment seems to be what hobbits do best. I liked the bit of self-depreciating humor in his comment that he doesn't think much. And I loved the little glimpse of Frodo, teaching his cousin to climb. All things work for good, don't they?

Lovely interpretation, beautifully put - with a great twist back to Frodo at the end.

The last line sent a shiver down my spine. Drove home that things we do which at the time mean nothing, can one day mean everything.

I love Pippin's casual attitude about what he must do and later, with Aragorn, what he has done. I think it only fitting that Frodo was the one who had taught Pippin to climb. Loved Pippin rules for climbing and the fact that he was very tempted to look, though he knew better than to do so. As always, you have written Pippin so incredibly well. Loved it!

Oh, what an unsuspected, poignant ending! This was wonderful and I enjoyed every word of it, especially the end.

What a wonderful use of movie-verse! Beautifully done, and bringing in a lot of things that were missed even in the EE! Thank you, and thank Shirebound for the bunny!!! I love it! (And I don't normally like movie-verse fics.)

Absolutely wonderful! Pippin forgetting how important it really was to light the beacon given the series of events which followed mirrored my own thoughts. I'd really never thought about it, but of course, yes, without little Pip's climb, Gondor would have fallen. Excellent, excellent little ficlet. I was especially touched by the ending. It brought tears to my eyes.
