Ah, what a story! I really don't know how to describe it. Kind of bittersweet. But I can see how it relates to the lullaby, and I love the ending! Excellent! God bless,
Galadriel

Author Reply: 'Bittersweet' sounds good, I like that flavour ;-) Thanks for reading and I'm glad you enjoyed it.

All the best,

I read this on New Year's Eve - how appropriate.
Just brilliant Alawa thank you. I, too, am missing home and family on this special night.

Author Reply: Hi harrowcat, I'm glad it touched the spot for you. :-)

A warm story for a cold night, and a nice look at a young Aragorn's integration into the culture of the Dunedain. And I enjoyed Halbarad's cameo, too.

Author Reply: Thanks meckinock! I couldn't resist including Halbarad - but I'm sorry he only got such a small part.:-)

Happy New Year to you,
Alawa

What a wonderful Christmas present you gave all of us. It's not often you find stories about a Young Aragorn and his first days as a Ranger, but to find one w/all that *and* happening at Yuletide...This was so great to read. Thank you for the lovely Christmas gift. :o)

Author Reply: Glad you enjoyed it Tigger :-)

Best wishes for the New Year

Wow...I'm speechless, but I'll try to think of something coherent to say.

I love how this started. I've been in fog like that, and it is eerie. It sets the mood of the whole piece.

At first, I thought the Ranger might be Faramir, so was kind of blown away when it turned out to be Aragorn.

I loved the blessing--so simple, yet filled with hope for the future.

I couldn't help thinking as I read this, of those who are far away from home and won't see either their homes or their families for quite a while. brought tears to my eyes, it did)

Words fail me, so I'll just close with a simple 'just beautiful' and hope to read more of your fine work.

Author Reply: Hi Parker, I'm really delighted you enjoyed the story so much.

The blessing is lovely. This is the bit that I quoted directly from Altariel's winter solstice story "A Pale Light Lingering". This also involves Rangers but Ithilien ones. I don't think she posts on SofA, but all of her stuff is up on fanfiction.net.

I couldn't help thinking as I read this, of those who are far away from home...

Yes, I was thinking about that too.

Thanks again for reviewing.

Best wishes for the New Year

How lovely! A story I've often wondered about -- a young Aragorn joining the Rangers and who trained him. And the visuals of the fog and the ring of lights as they celebrate Mettare. I really enjoyed this. Thank you.

Author Reply: Hi Leaward, I'm really glad you enjoyed it :-) Thanks for letting me know.

Great story. I love Dunadan stories, and this is a good one. You did great on Giladan's thoughts, their customs, Aragorn's part in it. Plus the rabbit stew at the end.

Author Reply: Hi grumpy - love that name ;) Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for letting me know.

Lovely story. I like it that the Dúnedain keep the old traditions, both in the North and in the South.

Author Reply: Hi Soledad :-) Thanks
