This is another great story, and this is the sort of relationship I have always thought the King and the Steward would have. I love non-gloomy Faramir! :-)

This was just lovely. You perfectly captured Aragorn and Faramir's growing friendship and Faramir's bewilderment with his new lord.I just came across this gem(which well deserved its award) and am adding it to my favourites list.

Hi Gwynnyd,

I'm treating myself (and trying to jumpstart my own muses) by re-reading some short stories that were nominated at this year's MEFAs. It's definitely not the first time I've read this piece, but it never gets old. I found myself smiling right along with Aragorn and Faramir - both of them were just *so* in character for how I see their relationship at this stage. You've made them both very realistic, and the governance talk itself really showed that you understand how these things actually worked.

One niggling thing - "if I lived anywhere for more than year or two" - should there perhaps be an "a" before "year"? Besides that, though, this piece was great, a real joy. Thanks for the smile.

I've read it a lot more than twice. I even printed it.

what a wonderful story. Faramir working late into the night, to be interupted by king bringing a late night snack, and friendship.
Aragorn? Elessar? Estel? Strider? Surely there is one of my names you could bear to speak.
I love the humor in this story, and that Aragorn wants Faramir to be a partner in rebuilding.

Author Reply: Thank you! Aragorn was so wistful to Frodo when they met that he wanted to be liked for himself, that I thought he might make the first overture to Faramir. I'm glad you enjoyed the humor.

"This is the time of Men. I seek a partner in the rebuilding. Will you join me?” He held out his hand over the desk.

Fantastic. What a wonderful story!

Author Reply: I think both men woul dbe looking for friendship. Thank you!

I always wondered about this. Great little piece! But now I want to hear Aragorn's story...

Smiles,

Author Reply: The one where Bilbo and Aragorn steal one of Lobelia's chickens? Someday... thanks!

I loved this story when I first read it - and I love it still. Great.

Author Reply: (Gwynnyd does a happy dance) You even read it twice! Thank you! I am so glad you liked it!

This is nice! And I like your writing style, crisp and economical. My only quibble is that the dear King seems a bit too chatty then I'd expect. But hey, that's just me and it is a late hour, and he is the Telcontar. =)

Author Reply: Aragorn is offering Faramir the opportunity to move from formal acquaintance to friend. Hmm, I always say Aragorn as a man who could be very charming when he choose to be. He must have had lots of experience at various court functions throughout the years, and he certainly spouts poetry readily enough. Thank you! I'm very glad you like my writing style!

A lovely story detailing the start of what surely became a great friendship! I love the detail of Faramir's work, his determination to prepare everything properly for his new King. And Aragorn's surprising Faramir at work is wonderfully written...

Author Reply: Thank you. It was fun to write. I was thnking about Sam saying back in Bree that Strider always like the beer, so I thought evenif he coldn;t go lookikng, surely he could use Pippin's expertise to find them!

Author Reply: ACK! and now you know my deepest, most shameful secret. I am the world's sloppiest typist. Sorry for the errors. I am usually more careful before I hit that 'submit' button!
