awww how angsty! i love that time with Merry and Pippin in the hands of Uruk-hai because you can see their determination and can see how they struggle to overcome this obstacle, quickly really exemplifying the hobbity spirit of pulling through during a difficult time. Your last line was awesome too-- i can see Merry still thinking of Frodo even in the pickle that he is in...
Turns out that i'm rereading this and re-reviewing... hope you don't mind. ;)

Author Reply: Heavens! Why would I mind knowing that you still like it this much, after all this time?

This was, actually, my second drabble ever. I was quite nervous over it--much more so than my longer stuff!

aww poor Merry! Still concerned about Frodo despite the trouble he's in...
I like this. :)

Author Reply: I don't think Frodo would *ever* be that far from either his or Pippin's minds--especially when he doesn't really know what happened. He has to wonder if Frodo made it, if he got away--he's got no way to know.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again -- this packs quite a punch. Oh, Merry.

Author Reply: Thank you!

It must have been a great comfort to Merry and Pippin to have each other while they were in the hands of the Uruk-hai, much as it was for Frodo and Sam to have each other on their journey. Still, Merry and Pippin must have felt somewhat that they had failed Frodo since they were no longer there to help protect him.

Author Reply: Yes, this splitting of the hobbit group in two was a major and important event in the books, and most of the crucial developments would never have taken place without it.

Each pair could comfort one another. But I'm quite sure the other pair were never far out of mind.

And yes, Merry and Pippin, I think *did* feel a sense of failure at not being able to follow this time.
