Ho, Ho! My Lads  by Dreamflower 7 Review(s)

I don't remember reading this one. It is delightful. Especially an ultra hyper Took. Yes, secrets are much easier to keep if there is another person sharing the problem.

Oh, this is a delight! :) Pippin being so eager to help and then making such a mess...that little one can't do *anything* at this point without making messes, even take a bath! Of course, he never really grew out of *that* did he? LOL! And Merry and Pip spying is just priceless! LOL! I can remember doing the same thing with my brother, only it wasn't so much fun when we got caught. However, everyone will love their gifts, I know, and Pervinca's sounds like something I'd have envied at the equivalent of her age. :) Merry had better not start wondering where the presents are hidden, or he'll really land himself in trouble! :) Great job, both of you!
God bless,
Galadriel

Author Reply: Yes, you are quite right--he never did grow out of making a mess in the bath--and *that's* canon, LOL!

Of course Merry and Pippin would want to spy--these are Dwarves, after all! One doesn't often get a chance like *that*!!

I'm glad you like the gifts--Marigold and I had so much fun figuring those out!

Well, Frodo will be keeping an eagle eye on him after this, won't he?

I'm glad you enjoyed it--it's so nice to see new reviews for older stories!

So what presents did Frodo, Merry, and Pippin get from Bilbo? I want to know nearly as much as Merry and Pippin do! And what did Frodo get Bilbo?

It's a good thing Frodo knows his cousins so well, or else their surprise would have been ruined. I can just imagine them huddling together - there I go wanting to get out the pencils and sketch pad again to draw it.

"Merry’s last thought as he drifted away was “I wonder where they hid what they brought with them this time…”"

Sounds like me when I was little. Only I didn't stop at just wondering. *wink*

These stories of their childhoods are just delightful!

Author Reply: Well, Marigold and I are planning a sequel to this one day, so I can't reveal the secret yet, but a couple of them are later on mentioned in subsequent stories, just briefly.

I'd love to see a sketch of that scene! Go right ahead, feel free!

I'm not sure that Merry stopped at wondering, either, but he would have had to be very circumspect indeed, with Frodo already alerted.

Me too!

They are delightful hobbits, so they must have had delightful childhoods! 8-D

You know...when you told me about Ho, Ho! My Lads, nothing clicked. Until I took it to work last week, lol. I *did* read this before, but it appears that I didn't review ch. 2. So here I am. :-)

I still find this story delightful and completely enjoyed it the second time around. I think reading and writing about the lads as children, or young tweens, is so entertaining. I love them at those ages; happy-go-lucky, a bundle of energy...just kids being kids.

Hehehe...and Pippin on a sugar high! LOL! This particular Pippin came to mind when I was on a caffeine high yesterday with G.W. Again, thanks for sharing your wonderful imagination!

Author Reply: Yes, I do love writing our lads in their carefree growing up years before the Quest. And Marigold and I had loads of fun writing it together!

Hyper!Pip is a favorite of mine. I could just see it as being one reason for his exuberance and impulsiveness.

What a fun little story! An overly-excited Pippin doesn't make a very good spy. Merry would have done better without him, but he just couldn't leave his Pippin out of it, could he? And your description of Hurricane Pippin was hilarious. They never let him cook for some reason, hm, wonder what that could be? And then the bath! Well done.

Author Reply: We had a great deal of fun writing this story, so it couldn't help but show it. I guess Hurricane Pippin was only appropriate in a fic that was started to while away the time during Hurrican Ivan.
Well, Bilbo let him cook, at any rate--and then, if you please, gives him to Frodo and Merry to clean up! Glad you liked it!

I hope this review gets through. Delightful story! I love Merry and Pippin's innocence. I enjoyed the use of the dwarf song, too. It's cool when parts of The Hobbit are interwoven into the story. Keep writing!

Author Reply: The Dwarf song was actually what inspired the plot bunny. We listened to the CD, and could just imagine this scene of singing Dwarves chasing after little hobbits!

I'm actually working on a gap-filler for The Hobbit right now.

“So, my dears, now you see what can happen to little hobbits who try to listen to conversations not meant for their ears!”

It's a good thing they missed all the key information. I can't see Pippin finding it easy to keep any secrets, mind. Secret-keeping isn't a skill chatterboxes take to easily.

Author Reply: *Chuckle* I see him talking the ear off Merry about it for a while. But this was his first real challenge. It must have been *really* hard, but I know he would have tried his best. The practice paid off later, when it came time for him to get in on the Conspiracy.
