Close your eyes  by Werecat 4 Review(s)
Queen GaladrielReviewed Chapter: Prologue on 11/15/2005
How very interesting! But I must say, when I read the words "little one," I had to laugh. I can't imagine a baby dwarf! :-) But the poetry is really good, and it reminds me of some lullaby...ah! It reminds me of one that I think is called "The Miner's Lullaby." God bless,
Galadriel

Author Reply: Thanks for reading, Galadriel!

This is beautiful. "You'll have a mithril toy..." so perfect, as a lullabye and as a glimpse of the heart of Dwarven culture - surely one of the deepest and most closely guarded cultures of all Middle-earth. This is so evocative, I can just see the mother, lovingly tending her child in a warm cavern deep beneath the earth. Wonderfully done.

Author Reply: Thanks, Lamiel, for your kind words.

And the "mithril toy" line was what inspired the rest of the poem in the first place. Glad to know you liked it.

Very sweet and very dwarvish - I like the references to what the dwarves valued, which included their children, and to Aule.

Author Reply: Thank you for reading, Nilmandra. Actually this came from a lullaby I sing to my cats - hoping they will finally doze off so I too can sleep.

Don't ask why, but reading this made me want to cry all of a sudden.
It is a great piece of literature... and certainly makes up for the lack of writing for the other People of Tolkien's work besides Elves, Hobbits, and Men. I know you didn't ask for a rating, but in case you would like one, I would rate it a 10/10.

Author Reply: Thank you for your kind words. I too find that some cultures are seriously underwritten. And I'm glad that this touched you. Little things like this make all the difference to an author.

Thanks again,
Werecat
