Stars and Sniffles  by SlightlyTookish 20 Review(s)

“What would we do without him, Pippin?”

Pippin thought for a moment before shrugging. “Starve, I suppose.”

Oh my, that is SO Pippin.

I enjoyed this story a lot. Dear Frodo being so unaccustomed to caring for children and yet trying his best. And the stars, of course they were too much for him. I'm glad he came to believe in them in your late story.

Too bad Gandalf left so soon. That's the problem with him. He always does that. Little Frodo already had to make this experience as well in my German story.

Well done, dear!

Author Reply: Heehee. I'm glad you thought that was so Pippin...I thought he would say something like that!

Thanks again for reading this, my dear. I loved showing Frodo as the caregiver for a change, and showing how well he took care of Pippin. Of course he wasn't used to it but he really did his best. And I'm also glad he came to believe in the stars. I'm sure that after hearing how many other people saw them, he had no choice really :)

When I wrote this I was thinking about that time when Gandalf visited Frodo every now and again but hardly ever stayed for long (I guess he didn't need the giant bathtub, huh? ;) ). He stays just long enough to help but once he sees that Pippin is better he knows that Frodo should be the one to bring Pippin back to full health :)

Thank you SO much! :D

“It’s still here, Gandalf, but it is always very difficult to get anything out of you. I was trying to decide what to ask first.”

Awww... dear Pippin.

I love your Gandalf and Pippin together. Gandalf reminds me so much of a grandfather looking after his grandson - much as he does in some of the Minas Tirith scenes. And yet he remains Gandalf... he will keep his secrets, even from a curious Took.

Author Reply: Thanks so much! I also envision their relationship as that of a grandfather and grandson, and I love it that way - and, as you say, Gandalf is still Gandalf, and keeps his secrets. I'm so glad you enjoyed reading this. Thanks :D

I couldn't resist, though I should long be sleeping.

I prefer my Tooks chatty, cheerful, and curious.

I love it!!! :D

Author Reply: Heehee! Sorry it kept you up! :)

I'm glad you liked that line! That's how I imagine the Tooks. :)

Author Reply: I thought it was the best way to end it. I'm glad you enjoyed it too! :D

See, i had to read *at least* this part to see where the stars came from (see how the other fic lead me here? ;) ...I love worried!Frodo in the previous chapter and i like how Pippin first talked about stars and liking them and Gandalf bringing them down fro him for just a little while. :)
So cool.

Author Reply: Heehee, I'm glad the other fic led you here! Thanks for reading this one too...it was my first "long" story and the first time I wrote Gandalf. And I'm glad you like the stars as well...they're fun to write :D
Thanks!

WONDERFUL!!!!!! I just loved this. Gandalf not really liking a "quiet Took", and giving Pippin this wonderous experience. Congratulations for this being a Marigold's Best Bet!!!! WONDERFUL!!!!

Author Reply: Thank you so much, Pearl, for your lovely review and congratulations! This story holds a very special place in my heart and I was so honored when Marigold chose it. I'm thrilled that you enjoyed it - thanks again! :)

What a super-sweet story! I love sniffly-but-hungry Pippin, and shy-but-friendly Sam. And sweet Frodo! And gentle Gandalf! Wonderful. I enjoyed every bit of this. (If you ever get an urge to write an epilogue, where this story is told on the Quest somewhere and the others listen in, I certainly wouldn't mind reading it!)

:)

Author Reply: Shirebound strikes again, springing plotbunnies on unsuspecting writers! That is such a good idea - thanks! - and thank you also for your very sweet comments. I'm glad you enjoyed it :)

I love this idea of Gandalf pulling the stars from the sky for sick Pippin, and especially the way that Pippin thanked them for visiting as he let them go. Lovely chapter. :-)

Author Reply: I'm very glad you liked it! Thank you for your kind words :)

Is there anything sweeter than a good-hearted, trusting hobbit lad being looked after by a good-hearted wizard who wants to give the lad a special gift? I love how Pippin is as gentle with the stars as Gandalf is with him. *happy sigh*

Author Reply: Thanks, Shirebound! This whole story came about because I love Pippin and Gandalf's friendship - that underneath all the sternness, Gandalf truly cares for Pippin - so I'm really glad you like it :)
