Another memory between Denethor and Thorongil--the one whom his son wished to see? Perhaps another perception that Thorongil stole the love of those Denethor cherished, from Denethor's POV, of course.

I like thinking of Thorongil being looked on as a pet-come-hero by baby Boromir. Although I don't think Denethor is so keen.

Author Reply: I agree that Denethor is not overly fond of Boromir's admiration for the Captain. Thorongil has so many admirors already. But Denethor is more than willing to give in to his son's demands knowing that Thorongil would rather seek his own bed. One of the small joys in Denethor's life :-)
