Black Mountain  by White Wolf 4 Review(s)

I want to say to Legolas, "scream again so they can find you" but if he does that will alert the howlers and thats not good at all. Great chapter. More soon.

Author Reply: That would be great advice, if he didn't have gruesome creatures looking for him. However, the kind of pain he's in doesn't always give you a choice. :o)

Thank you. More soon.

It must be sort of dead - because once they bite it off the living creature, it's not strictly speaking . . . What a gruesome set of howlers you have invented. The sort of creature that wakes you up at night with nasty dreams.

Poor Aragorn - wallowing in guilt about it being his fault (true, in a way). If they had only responded more quickly to that cry and found poor L. Now they've taken his knives (although I suppose he didn't actually have them, so it's not that much of a problem - yet). They didn't find Legolas's bow - but I can't see him being able to use that, even if a howler was to hand it over with a polite bow and offer to do a William Tell.

The wound is currently being a plus point - and possibly the freezing weather will hold back the spread of infection, but he does need treatment - and with E2A aka E3 traipsing off back down the morning, the only current help around is equipped with nasty sets of teeth that look on our hero as lunch.

Get that elf some help! Soon - before he a) freezes b) gets gangrene c) is found by the howlers or d) is used as a trap.

Author Reply: Not to be too gruesome, but I pictured the howlers layiing into their living meals so fast and furious that they would consume a good deal before their poor prey died. Sorry about that image. That would probably give anyone nightmares.

Good points about Legolas's weapons. You are right. He couldn't have used his bow with his infected shoulder and could probably only manage one knife. Right now, being unarmed is the least of his problems.

Surely you don't think E3 will get away. I think, I hope, you know me better than that.

Great choices. I think I'd opt for becoming an elfcicle, to save myself from choices b, c, and d.

*sniff* The first part of this chapter, with Aragorn and the twins so distraught over the 'death' of their friend was wonderfully sad. If only Elladan had looked more closely at that rock! If only they had turned back when they heard the cry!

I find myself hoping that Elladan, Elrohir and Aragorn are captured by the howlers - if they leave the mountain, Legolas has no chance. And he's unarmed, since Aragorn took his knives back with him :(

Great chapter!

Author Reply: Thank you. I was going for intense grief all the way. Yes, if only...

Something happens in the next chapter, which was foreshadowed at the very beginning of the story, that will change everything.

Well that was a nasty thought at the end: Howlers don't eat dead meat.

You toyed with us there, White Wolf! Letting us think that they might find Legolas and then making them not do it. Maybe it's for the best though if the howlers are watching them.

Author Reply: That *was* nasty, wasn't it? I don't want people thinking that because the howlers were once men, there is any humanity left in them. I want them to be pure...uh...nastiness.

A bit of toying is fun. As for the howlers, they are always watching. No one has ever escaped them. We'll have to see how this expedition turns out.
