This is just wonderful. It is beautifuuly told! I love how Oropher reflects on what has made him happy in his life, what has brought him joy. I am certain that he feels that these moments outweight most of the sad times. I can not tell you enought how much I enjoyed reading this. I even shed a few tears! I am glad to see a nice, sentimental story about these wonderful characters! Great work!

This was very nice. It's rare to see much about Oropher, even less about his relationship with his son. I love the simple love and pride between them throughout their lives, and I think that the death of Thranduil's mother must have strengthened their bond.

Author Reply: Thanks, Jay. I am always fascinated about those characters that Tolkien just gave us a peek at. I often wonder what he would have done with them had he the time to flesh them out. My obsession with the Sindar started with Thranduil, actually, and has expanded to include Legolas and Oropher. Thranduil has become such a vivid character to me after writing him in several stories; I look forward to learning who Oropher is in my own imagination.

That was wonderful! I've never thought of writing fan fic about Oropher but it worked really well. A father's love for his son is a beautiful thing and you have depicted it well. Interesting also to read a story about a young and happy Thranduil before life made him into a much harder character. I've done some writing about a much older Thranduil as king and father and have tried to show a somewhat softer side, but you've done wonderfully well in this piece.

Author Reply: Thanks, Mirkwoodmaiden. I am very glad you enjoyed this one. I often try to portray Oropher and Thranduil as compassionate and sympathetic characters. I am glad Oropher's love for his son came across in this story, as well as Thranduil's childhood innocence.

This was touching. You could see Oropher's love for his son at all the stages of the child's life. That's significant in itself, I think. Our kids often appeal to us more at some times than others, and maybe Oropher is just picking those times, but he covers a long span of time and appreciates both a child's vulneability and an adult's strength. I loves his last thoughts.

Author Reply: Thank you so much. This story grew out of some frustration I had with how Oropher is widely portrayed in fan fiction. Somehow, he has developed a fanon reputation of being a bad or a unloving father – unfortunately, Thranduil has the same reputation. Why this is, I don't know. I can't see any of Tolkien's elves as being abusive to each other, much less their own offspring, so I decided the best way to do something about it was to present a different image of him. I am very glad you enjoyed it.

Yes, another beautifully written vignette.Love the affection from father to son. Eokat.

Author Reply: Thanks so much... I am very glad you liked it. I have developed a liking for the Sindar: Thranduil, Oropher, and Legolas in particular.
