For Any Love  by Sigil Galen 6 Review(s)
LamielReviewed Chapter: Prologue on 7/1/2004
Very sweet, and charming. So many forget that it was love of Galadriel that drew Gimli to the West, as much perhaps as his friendship with Legolas. This is a beautiful vignette.

Author Reply: Many thanks for your kind words! I too love the fact that Gimli was willing to brave such a trip for love of Legolas and a desire to see Galadriel again. Such a multi-faceted dwarf! Again, I appreciate you taking the time to leave a review. I'm fairly new to this fanfic thing (well, writing anyway) and your comments are greatly encouraging!

I think the two things that I liked best in this story were Legolas's unbounded joy at finally reaching Valinor, and of course, Gimli seeing Galadriel again. The fact that she greeted him set the whole tone for his new life. I also liked the new Gandalf.

Nicely done.

Author Reply: Thanks so much for reviewing and especially for pointing out the things you enjoyed about the fic. It's very gratifying and greatly appreciated! Many thanks!

What a beautiful story! I can't imagine a more lovely and joyous way for Gimli to be greeted and honored, and for him to know that he made the right decision. Wonderful.

that was sweet. Its kind of hard to imagine Gandalf, or Olorin, as a you person, since he arrived in middle-earth as an old man. Good story. I enjoyed reading it.

Author Reply: Thanks so much for the comments and I agree--can you imagine Gandalf being (or looking) like anything other than the way he appears in the books/movies? Hard to picture.

Thanks for the review!

I like this one a lot, actually...you were very creative in having Gimli unsure of his reception upon arrival. Most stories I've read assume he expected welcome, so it makes the magnitude of his decision to go with Legolas even more intense. The dialogue was good, and I liked the sense of humor as well.

My only question would be how Gandalf knew Gimli was coming, that he was "expected". Was it planned and arranged long before? It seems an awfully big risk for Legolas to take, bringing his elvellon, and I can't picture him risking Gimli being rejected.

Anyhow, I still enjoyed it - you have a talent for description that paints a clear picture.

Author Reply: Hello and thanks for your review! I'm glad you enjoyed Gimli being uncertain about his arrival--I too like to think it adds to the amount of courage it took for him to leave with Legolas if he's unsure that it's allowed. As for Gandalf's statements about him being expected, I was simply going with the idea that Galadriel did, in fact, obtain permission for him and that new arrivals are always 'spotted' in some way. Just a loose idea and I might revise to make things more clear. (I was working against a page limit, or it might have read differently in the first place).

Thanks again for your thoughtful comments and I appreciate you taking the time to review!
