The Picnic  by Jay of Lasgalen 8 Review(s)

Heheh, cute.

I like the term "mongrels". Can you imagine it being an affection used on them? Though some elves are pretty strict on race...

Author Reply: I think no one would dare to use the term mongrels apart from the immediate family, and perhaps Legolas! When I was investigating their checkered ancestry it seemed the obvious term to use.

Author Reply: I had fun writing this extra scene - it's one I had in mind for some time. I'm glad you liked The Search.

A nice little interlude, pity those two didn't hook up really, would have made the whole quest more interesting, and Aragorn could have had Eowyn etc. no one dies and no one has to give up thier immortality. Far to neat to make a good tale I guess. ho hum,
Lovely writing tho

Author Reply: I think L and A would make a perfect couple, being of similar background - both children of ruling lords. Who else is there for them in the Elven realms? No wonder Arwen had to look elsewhere!

By the way, if Arwen feels the need to comment on Legolas wearing breeches, does that mean that she is skinny-dipping?

And Galadriel's mother Earwen is, I think, Teleri and her grandmother Indis is Vanyar. Just to add to the mix.

Author Reply: Yes, she must have been. I think elves aren't bothered by nudity, but Legolas didn't trust the twins not to have put her up to something.

I get lost when compiling the Elrondions' family tree - it's so complicated!

What a perfectly lovely story!

By the way, twins - Arwen killed two before you did!

Lovely to see Arwen being bold - I rather think that ellyth were quite likely to be trained with bows. After all, they could remain girly, yet be able to defend themselves without getting blood on their dresses!

Nice relationships.

Now to go back and read it again.

Author Reply: The twins are rather fed up about Arwen killing the spiders, but proud of her at the same time. It's a sibling thing. I'm glad you like the story - it's nice to write something that's pure fun for a change.

I love how envious the twins are of their sister - she got to fight spiders and they did not! Nice shooting by Arwen too - always knew she was a capable elleth :D

Author Reply: Poor twins - they've always been fascinated by the spiders, and Arwen beat them!

I like feisty Arwen - with her brothers, she could be nothing else.

How typical of the twins. Rather than be concerned about their sister and their friend's safety, they're jealous that Arwen got to hunt spiders before they did! LOL

I loved Arwen's reaction to the spiders' size. Followed by Legolas's reaction to her reaction. Did you ever wonder why they are called giant spiders? Gee, Arwen, did you think they were just a tale to scare elflings with? :)

Good story, Jay. But I think the version Legolas told Dacy was more impressive. ;)

Author Reply: It's not that they weren't worried, but they both know Legolas and Arwen are more than capable of dealing with a few spiders. The brave and noble warriors are put out!

I think Dacy would have preferred her version too.

I liked this as a background moment to your other stories, filling in one of your own gaps, so to speak. I liked the talk about their betrothal, and Arwen's good shooting, and the envy of the twins. Nice short piece, Jay.

Author Reply: I think Legolas and Arwen are an obvious couple, and their parents would love the idea! It's a shame L and A don't agree ...

I'll have to let the twins find a real spider one day.
