| I liked seeing these two together. On the surface, they could not be more different, but they fill similar roles. They each serve as the devoted guardian of someone on whom the safety of ME depended. One of the themes I like in Tolkien is that small, humble people can do important things, and we certainly see that in Sam. |

This is wonderful, Nancy! I am an unashamed Glorfindel fangirl, and your Glorfindel just pops to life off of these pages. You showed some great parallels between Gondolin and the Shire, and those similarities are good - policies of isolationism never work, unfortunately.
I like that Sam was a bit annoyed yet with Glorfindel - and I like that this is an unusual state of affairs for the balrog slayer. Someone to shake him up every so often is a good thing...and I like that it was Sam, of all people! |

| Lovely! I really appreciate encounters and conversations between unlikely pairs such as Glorfindel and Sam. How wonderful that such a mighty Lord can compare his own story with Sam's, and that Sam, while relaxing into Rivendell's peacefulness, is still as alert to Frodo's needs as ever. Very, very nice. |
