Remembrance  by Lily Dragonquill 9 Review(s)

This is a wonderful and very moving story! I love how you interweave the present and the past. I especially love the flashback with Frodo and Sam and the books. A lifelong friendship beginning at that moment! The blending of Tolkien's words and yours is seamless, and really adds to the story.

My favorite part was in chapter one, when Frodo reflects on his task and how it had been achieved. You do a great job of capturing his guilt but also his hopefulness in regard to his fellow hobbits. This was one of the reasons Frodo loved the Shire. People were able to forget. I just adore that line! It captures so much, not just about Frodo's selflessness but also the nature of hobbits and their remarkable ability to recover from their hurts. It makes Frodo's inability to recover even more poignant.

Well done, Lily! I'm so glad you mentioned this story to me, or else I would have missed it!

Author Reply: Thank you, Jen. I'm very glad you enjoyed it and knowing that you usually prefer Pippin stories over those focusing on Frodo makes me even happier.

Being able to forget is one of the gifts Tolkien has given the hobbits. Frodo has lost this gift during the quest and for me this is one of the many reasons why I Frodo left in the end.

I've always connected 'My Immortal' to Frodo in my mind, and this so accurately portrays what I've always felt in my heart. I love that song, and I cry every time I listen to it. Now, I'll cry partially thinking of this story. But, its a GOOD kind of cry...thank you.

I have been crying when I first heard that song because it has been at that very moment that the images to this story came to my mind. It's good to know that I'm not the only one who feels like that about My Immortal.

Frodo is the only character with the purest soul I've ever read. But he's also so humane. His heroic journey didn't make him like any heroes in any other stories or movies. He suffered from his traumatic experience which looks so normal for me. That's how it normally feels after someone goes after such a journey. I still cry every time I re-read ROTK or the fics out there with that kind of themes.

Author Reply: Me too! I start crying with the beginning of the battle on the Pelennor ... and stop half an hour after I have finished the book.

Maybe it really is the fact that Frodo is so 'normal'. Every other hero has some kind of power or special ability (be he only a good swordfighter like Aragorn) but Frodo... he has nothing of all this and still he goes and this journey - and returns. That's what a true hero looks like!

Like Sam, I also found myself in tears. But Sam wept because he missed Frodo while I did because I missed Frodo, too, and because of this story. Great job, Lily!

That means a lot to me.

Oh, so sad. Frodo and his quest. How can it be so awesome and leaves a deep trace in our hearts? :*(

Author Reply: I don't know what it is, but there's something that touches you deeply - maybe Frodo's reasons why he went on the quest... or maybe the fact that in the end he leaves all he has fought for behind. :(

awwwww~!!!! i really liked this story =) so touching so sad so bittersweet :*) :*(
i really liked this line:

Frodo, who had left seven days ago; on the shores of Middle-earth they had shared their last embrace, which meant so much more than the one almost thirty years earlier. The bond between them was now stronger even than the elven-rope Sam had gotten from the elves of Lórien. Their relationship had been put to the test and they had passed it, leaving behind the shadow and the darkness which threatened to destroy not only their friendship but also themselves.

you capture Frodo and Sam's friendship so beautifully. I especially liked the part in which Sam wrote down the lyrics of "My Immortal". ( i love that song as well!)

very good job =) nice description and your characters are very canonic =)

Author Reply: I'm so glad you enjoyed it.

This story is very close to my heart and I gave my best to write in canon and make the characters believable. I'm glad it worked.

This song must have a certain attractiveness that makes your mind wander and think of things you wouldn't have thought of in the way you do now. At least this is what I felt when I first listened to this song.

I liked the imagery and reference to the books in this timeless story of friendship, letting go, and other things "The Lord of the Rings" shows. You are an accomplished author, so keep up the good work! I wish I could write like you or others, oh well, I can't.

I'm sure you could write like this too. Writing is an art where you need to let your imagination run free and then write down what you feel.
