Cadenza  by Rose Sared 7 Review(s)

The bit about the masons excavating Gimli's head was priceless, as was Arwen not telling anyone that she had cracked Minuial's skull. I felt really sorry for poor Legolas with everybody mad at him. But I had to agree with Gleowyn's wonder about a world with elves in it. ~TF

Author Reply: Oh if only the world did have elves in it. sigh. I keep decorating the landscapes I drive through in my work with elves. It improves it.

Oh dear...poor Gimli! Twenty...no, fifty masons chiseling and hammering in his poor head? Gave me a headache just thinking about it! What a descriptive metaphor...ouch! I was glad to see him in the care of Tolman - he is such a neat Hobbit! I've really appreciated his character's warmth and caring - he reminds me of an old-fashioned country doctor...always willing to travel to help his patients. I don't think they make those anymore. :-( And friend Legolas is applying his healing talents, too. Well, it stands to reason he would have some...just not as developed as a trained healer. Given Gimli's injuries, I wouldn't want to be the one to try and keep him (Legolas) from helping heal and support the dwarf. (Elven life support, eh?)

So the twins are on Thranduil's bad list, are they? I would be interested in what little (or big) trick they played...and judging from Minuial's reaction to seeing them, it affected more than one woodland elf! LOL I won't say poor Minuial...but poor Minuial! Waking up with no Legolas in sight...she knew he had been around, but now he is not!

My dear Legolas! Not a romantic bone in his body...LOL! Truer words were never spoken; the elf needs some instruction here! :-) Must be a guy thing - wonderfully handsome (uh, let's be accurate here...beautiful!), kind, loyal, courageous, and absolutely, totally oblivious! Maybe he hasn't had a chance to notice...we'll give him the benefit of the doubt. ;)

I loved the interlude with Gleowyn meeting up with Legolas on the hilltop...and I totally agree with her. The world is much more beautiful for the elves being a part of it! Great chapter, RS!

Author Reply: Thank you Linda, your wonderful reviews make writing this so much fun. I guess I just see Leggy as such a guy - interested in his sports and mates (archery and mortals, sorry) and putting anything icky like emotions in a little compartment, hence that semi-formal relationship with Min, nice safe rules and no committment.
Perhaps I'll be nicer to him in another fic, we'll see. I love him really, and all my other OC's and canon characters

'Go away you annoying little person skills'. What a fantastic phrase - made me laugh. And indeed the blond elf would have needed the above in quantity given the mass drooling that seems to happen every time he appears in front of females.

I wonder if that is why he grew so fond of Gimli? Most creatures, male and female, fell for Legolas's charm and wanted to be his friend, but Gimli's hostility meant that he needed to be won.

Author Reply: Well yes, in both my slash and non slash universes that has to be one reason that Leggy pursues Gimli so ardently. That and the fact that the dwarf's personality is so unique, he is such a lovely character to write, tough and soft all at the same time. Oh I could rave for a while but I will restrain myself.
Thanks for your wonderful reviews

I like the way the twins took Minuial to the trees for healing, and the 'shall we edit this?' look. If they want their sister to live, they'd better.

I also liked Legolas helping with Gimli's healing - I know the twins were healers, but no one knows about Legolas. I like this interpretation of him. But poor Throndar - a hero's funeral is always sad.

Author Reply: Yep, that Min she's pretty scary, but the archer likes a challenge you know!
So sad to say a final good bye to Throndar, and I dunno about Leggy and healing, I like to think of him having the normal amount of magic that elves have as a birthright, he's had a fair opportunity to practise passing that virtue on, owing to his association with these mortals, but he does not see himself as a healer, more as doing what he can to help.
I'm glad you are still enjoying

I continue to greatly enjoy this story--you are such a talented author. You know, you could keep adding on to this story the way you write so well--even if it was about boring everyday things (washing dishes). I know I would keep reading. This means that when you do end the story, I will be looking for your next one (I hope so!!)

Author Reply: Umm, blush, thank you for your kind words. The funny thing was that I wrote ch 19 as the end of the story, then overnight various muses set up such a clamor that I had to go and write CH20, this may yet be the tale that never ends

I like the masons in Gimli's head - good extended metaphor. Nice to see Tolman back in the frame; he is a splendid hobbit.

Poor Minuial, being left just with the twins, (many might disagree), while Legolas is off succouring Gimli. An unromantic Legolas - it's odd, actually, how the very beautiful are no more likely to be romantic than anyone else, and often the most romantically inclined males are rather less pretty.

Love the 'shall we edit this' look.

Like the way all the races honour Throndor - he deserves it.

Bardor - scared of Minuial - how unreasonable. Perhaps Legolas should tell her - it might help her self-confidence to recuperate.

Author Reply: Ha, I'd be scared of Minuial if I met her! (especially given some of the stuff I do to her, ) Beautiful people do not need to develop any sort of come hither skills, in fact they need to develop, go away you annoying little person, skills, it seems to leave something of a gap in thier empathy development when it comes to matters of the heart. Also I just think it is such a typically male thing to have matters arranged in a nice logical way, and be very startled and upset when the other person wants to change the boundaries, hah.
Thanks for the kind review

I am a big Legolas fan so I was interested in the way his presence threaded through the bits here. I liked Arwen's analysis of him. He's kind and competent and completely oblivious. This story seems to be winding to a satisfactory conclusions for almost everyone.

Author Reply: Thanks daw, the story is winding down but the muses keep putting up their hands and wanting another scene, nearly there now I think with Ch20 - we will see, that is what I thought about 19!
Glad you are enjoying the Leggy bits.
