"When she would be ready for courting and marriage (Pippin guessed around the age of…fifty or even sixty!),"

Yup, that definitely sounds like most fathers! Very realistic.

Like both endings, myself. Thanks for the story.

Okay, now that I have seen an ending where dear little Rosebud lived (and her pulling on Gandalf's beard btw was a cute mental image), I must say I preferred the original ending, though I did love exploring the possibility where she lived for a long time.

As sad as the original ending was, to me it was more touching and sorrowful, yet hopeful because Pippin found a way to continue with his life, and he found ways of making sure that his sweet baby's memory would live on (not that anyone who knew her could ever forget her - I certainly won't)!

But thank you for offering us this second ending to this hauntingly beautiful story - I won't be soon forgetting it - and I am still of a mind to write out that one story that takes place during Pippin and Merry's time at Crickholllow. I will email you if and when it is ever written and posted.

Thanks!

Now I liked that very much. I loved that it was Gandalf who cured Rosebud and that Merry was the one who brought him to the Smials. This is the ending that I like the best. I enjoyed Rosebud pulling Gandalf's beard. A great job! A Bilbo ending, "And she lived happily ever after until the end of her days."

You couldn't leave it, could you? I can appreciate your wanting to write an alternate, to make everything all better. But you know how I loved the original story, though it absolutely broke my heart, and I thought it was brilliant. This is sweet, warm and fuzzy, and a "Say it ain't so!" kind of p.s. to the Original Roses. Did you get a public outcry about the original ending or what? Lovely, nonetheless. :-)

Author Reply: LOL...no, I just had to indulge myself with Rosebud one last time. You'll think I'm nuts, but after it was evident I was going to go on with Rosebud's demise, a few folks did say that they wished Rosebud wouldn't die. Though it had nothing to do with Rosebud, but I was still reeling myself from killing off Lilas--I got a wee bit attached to her, too. Her death really affected me. Yes, I'm cracked. I thought perhaps the readers were right. Then Pearl Took (my mentor and friend) got hold of me and we agreed to stick to the original ending--and I had every intention of doing so--and I did. However, as I was on the road to carrying out Rosebud's illness...I sincerely fell in love with her (Rosebud's) character. From the beginning I wanted a bit more interaction between Pippin and Rosebud--that's why I wrote the dream sequences. However, she couldn't live for too long; I wanted to stay *somewhere* wihtin JRRT's storyline! :-P That's when another idea took shape in the back of my mind: to write yet another alternate ending--*for me*! I didn't care if anyone wanted it, or liked it. I merely figured I would share it with whomever wanted a glimpse.

You are a wonderful reader/author yourself! Thank you for humoring an old lass! :-) Take care!

Another wonderful ending! One is hard enough, but you've managed two. I'm not really a fan of "Gandalf-come-fix-everything," but it was lovely to see what Rosebud's life might have been. I love the ent-draught idea - a Pippin classic. It's a shame she didn't get a brother in this one, but she has more than enough cousins to make up for it, and maybe Faramir is simply yet to come... It doesn't take much to fall in love with Rosebud, just words on a page telling her story will do the trick. Thanks again for sharing. Farewell, Rosebud, I'll miss hearing more about you.

Author Reply: Thank you for reading Roses! I'm not familiar with any other story that has Gandalf come fix everything, but as this was an extrememly AU story, I thought it wouldn't hurt to use his Maian "powers" or his "somewhat direct link" to the One...thanks for indulging an old lady! Well...I'm not *that* old....

As for a brother, I did write in Faramir--I just didn't call him by name like I did in the original ending. Yes, her lovely cousins do come in handy. ;-) Thanks again for reading!

*SIGH* A wonderful ending, as was the other one, though each in their own way. You have grown so much with your writing, it has become as wonderful as you!! God Bless, my dear friend :)

Author Reply: Wow...and a huge thank you to my mentor and dear friend. You've taught me everything I know! :-) Thank you so much for all your encouragement, guidance, being straighforward with your views--what would work and what wouldn't work. Thank you for being a friend. :-) God Bless you, too!

That was a nice alternate ending, but I'm glad that's not how it really happened. I know that probably sounds morbid, but it true. Not every story has a happy ending. Gandalf couldn't always come to their rescue. It just would not have been right to make Rosebud a part of Pippin's future family. I kind of feel like I'm doing her a disservice, but that's just how I feel.

I loved this story for so many reasons. It was sweet, sad, fuuny, maddening all in one, sometimes all at once. I can't even think of all I want to say. There was just so much here.

Thanks for this variant on the end, but I'll keep the first ending.

Thanks.

Connie B.

Author Reply: LOL...no, you're not morbid. But yes, my own favorite ending is the first one, too--after all, that was the *original* plan. I was just indulging my own fancy for Rosebud. Thanks, Connie, for reading this "other" ending. Take care--and keep in touch!

yay! Rosebud LIIIIVEEEES! Yeah .. I can see how an older (try ancient) person like Gandalf might ... erm .. not approve of Pippin's situation, but I'm glad he helped anyways!

Rosebud grew up to be a lovely lass, I'm glad she survived this time ;)

"and anyone who came to know her couldn't help but love her. Even me." aww.... yes, I love her too!

Thanks again soo much for this story. I have very much enjoyed following it - there's something about following a fic that is so great and you feel like a part of it in a way :)

Thanks for sharing this with us!

I'll send one last kiss to my dear dear Rosebud ... love you honey *sniff*

and a BIG kiss and hug to you - the incredible author. Keep it up :)

Author Reply: Yes, you are--I feel all the readers have been a major part of this story. I did fall in love with my own OC in spite of advice to avoid it! I still felt compelled to write this "other" ending. Big hug back at ya...thanks for reading Roses. :-)

Wow. Just wow. I haven't reviewed this story before, but I've been following it along. I really, really enjoyed it, especially the alternate ending. I loved how you incorporated Pippin's dream about Rosebud into this chapter. Thanks for sharing this story. Keep Writing! :)
