This is a great little story. I love Merry as a historian. I really love the description of Celeborn feeling like "he was trapped in some kind if epilogue." This is such a great description of the fading of the Elves in the fourth age. This is both in how the Elves linger even though their story in Middle Earth is over and in how the information of the last days is actually recorded in the Appendix of LOTR. Thanks, atealgirl

Lovely story. I didn't expect the characters to be whom you picked -- so that was a delightful surprise!! A very nice study of Merry and his scholarship. Thank you. Author Reply: Thank you. They make an odd writing partnership - but it is canon!

What a lovely alliance between these two. Celeborn gets to tell his tales to someone who is eager to listen and together they make a history by which they will be remembered. Author Reply: Thanks. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

I love this side of Merry, an older, wiser, and more scholarly Merry--how touching and sweet it is to see him working with Celebrimbor; and behind the Elf's description of all he misses about Galadriel, you can imagine Merry thinking of all he is missing about his cousin. So bittersweet. Author Reply: Thank you - I was aiming for bittersweet so I'm really glad the mood came through.

I think I've read this somewhere before, but I don't think I reviewed it. I liked it a lot - the idea of Celeborn helping Merry compile the "history of everything" is a nice one. Only complaint about the story is that hobbits should age more slowly than most men. But I guess if Celeborn is mainly familiar with the Dunedain, then that would explain why he'd think the opposite, because hobbits do age more quickly then them. You should write a second chapter or a sequel about when Merry returns with "young Faramir Took" - I'd love to see Celeborn interacting with a hobbit-child. Author Reply: Sorry it took a while to say thanks - but thanks! I was thinking about the Dunedain/Numenorians as the men Celeborn would know, maybe I should have made that clearer. There is a sequel, and in fact a sequel to that. Now that I'm back on line the series should all be up soon.

I love this story! I've seen it in other place, and it's one of my favorites. The idea of an ancient elf lord like Celeborn leaving his stories -- his life -- with the hobbits is just beautiful. Glad to see you posted it here. Author Reply: Thank you.

Lovely. Merry's scholarly leaning seem to be forgotten by many writers, its nice to see someone bring that bit of canon to life. Your depiction of Celeborn is wonderful. Author Reply: Thanks! I really felt I got to know Celeborn while writing this fic. There is something quite painful about the fact that he stays behind when the ringbearers leave.

A lovely story! I know I had read somewhere that Merry went to Rivendell after the Quest, and here you have not only quoted it, but written a wonderful story about such a visit to. i can really see them there in the liberary, so intent upon the task and sleeping peacefully when it is doen. Great work. Author Reply: Thank you. Yes, I think that little detail from the prologue is often forgotten.

I'm so glad you posted this here! I've always loved this little story. "How strange to live such a little while. How urgent everything must seem." What a perfect way to view mortals through immortal eyes. Author Reply: Thanks! There's finally another story in this series. It should be up soon.
