Promise to a Newborn  by LKK 6 Review(s)
NilmandraReviewed Chapter: 1 on 4/17/2004
This is rather bittersweet, knowing the time had come to leave, and wanting this last descendent to know and understand something of his mother's people. In my head, the twins and Celeborn stayed long enough to not leave Arwen alone, and to see her son well established. How sad, how unselfish, and how beautiful - just like this.

Author Reply: My view of the fates of Celeborn and the twins is exactly like yours, Nilmandra. I think they sailed shortly after Legolas and Gimli left.

You are the first reviewer to descibe my drabble as bittersweet. I was very happy to hear that. I intended this to have a sad air to it, but no one had mentioned it in the other reviews. I was beginning to think I had failed miserably until your comment. So I'm doubly thankful that you took the time to drop me a note. Thank you!

Lovely, LKK. Beautiful, but not overly sentimental. Loved it!

Author Reply: Thank you, Celeb. I'm glad you liked it and took the time to let me know. :)

That's nice - I like them identifying themselves as Elf-kind and I like the idea of them passing on that side of their father's heritage to him. You have a very neat economical way with words in your drabbles, so you manage to pack in a lot without them feeling rushed.

Avon

Author Reply: Children of a half-elf or not, I just can't imagine the twins not thinking of themselves as full elves. So I wanted to make it clear that that's how they thought of themselves.

I appreciate your comments about my drabbles, Avon. I work hard on those 100 words, hoping to get them to say as much as possible. So it really means a lot to me that you like the results.

KarriReviewed Chapter: 1 on 4/15/2004
Lovely and thoughtful. :-D And I was pleased that you allowed them to call themselves 'elf' - as they should.

Author Reply: I know that Tolkien never referred to the twins as elves. But I just can't imagine that they thought of themselves as anything other than elves given how and where they were raised.

Thanks for dropping me a note, Karri. I'm glad you liked the drabble.

Very nice. I think Elladan and Elrohir would be very good uncles to Eldarion, and I like the idea of them teaching him their heritage.

Jay

Author Reply: I like to think that the twins would want to be remembered. There are so few left in Minas Tirith who could do that. So I could see them taking on the task of teaching before they set sail.

Thanks for dropping me a note, Jay!

That's wonderful. I like thinking that Elladan and Elrohir feel a duty to their nephew's education, and are thinking about the legacy they want Eldarion to learn (so that he, too, can someday teach).

Very nice.

Author Reply: Thank you for dropping me a note, shirebound. I appreciate you taking the time to read and write. :)
