Moon Gate  by Iorhael 5 Review(s)

Iorhael,

These are some of my favourite parts of this wonderful little story. I think the beginning was the best opening with:

Bag End. Lonely.

Hollow.

Empty.

Dark.

Set up the atmosphere within Bag End so well for the mood of the rest of the story. I know all deep down in our hearts we all wished we lived at Bag End - or at least I do anyway. Especially in the one you describe. I never wanted to be a hobbit so much before I met your wonderful portrayals of Frodo and Sam.

But… who would dare?

Who would dare indeed ? - as much as Frodo left it for Sam - I couldn't imagine Sam ever writing any more in the Red Book - although it is suggested otherwise.

And I never believed a truer statement than this one:

Still, he did not completely return

I imagine that he never did completely heal from Frodo's passing - even with Rosie and his children. There was always a sense of something missing - just like in your description of Bag End.

Wonderful Story.

JULES

Author Reply: *sigh*

You've never wanted to be a hobbit before... You're so sweet, Julie. I don't know what to say. I guess I'm not as articulate as you are especially to reply to this kind of praise. Thank you so much!

This is so moody and atmospheric.

"There were no more shadows looming over Middle Earth.
Save perhaps in Bag End."

Your words really make me "see" Bag End as it was at the end of the RotK movie. Your writing is vivid - thank you!

Author Reply: I thank you! Thank you for reading it. Thank you for reviewing it. Your words mean a lot to me.

Wonderful as usual! So sad and touching. Frodo has left to find healing and now Sam must find his.

Author Reply: Hope they both succeeded. Thank you for your sweet words!

What a wonderful story! Very well written! Poor Sam. I wonder how long it will take him to let go.

Author Reply: That's an intriguing idea, about how long Sam needs to let go. Might be until he passed to the west.

Thank you for reading and reviewing it.

It was all so beautiful, but I loved this part.
{The moon had reached out its fingers, bringing the light through the shut window. But the obscurity was too thick and the sorrow was too deep. Nothing could lighten the place again. Nothing could console … his heart. Sam’s heart. }

This one made me see Bag End and see poor, Sam. You write such moving stories. Wonderful!
