Author Reply: Like every child, Merry wants to know if his parents loved each other. He sees it now, but during the 'turbulent' years, he spent a lot of time with his uncle Paladin, so he wasn't well acquainted with his parents affection between one another, such as a kiss here and there. However those years were hard on their relationship, and quite possibly there wasn't a lot of that affection for him to witness anyway. Thanks for reviewing...

You have something in this one that I haven't seen before, (no pun intended) but glasses! I have read dozens of these and yours is the first to refer to any hobbit with glasses that I have seen! I was beginning to think all of those delightful little folks had 20/20 vision. LOL
Love Merry's talk with his mum by the way.

Author Reply: Well, they're not glasses as we know today; they're those old granny spectacles that sit on the nose. And they're not like presciptions we get, but more like one-magnification-fits-all reading glasses we see in the store today. If my desdcription doesn't exactly fit that, then please let me know so I can adjust it. I did a little web research and found that glasses have been around for ages. Pearl Took is living proof (she looks like a hobbit!) that these "little folks" don't have 20/20 vision--she wears glasses like I do, but I'm too tall to be a hobbit. :-P

Yes, it was Merry's little talk to his mum that was altered. It was heavily steeped in why's and wherefor's of his and his fahter's early estrangement, and I decided I wanted these stories to be able to stand on their own; I may allude to that relationship, but only in a way a reader who hasn't read my ealier fics isn't left scratching their head...too much!

Take care,
Pippinfan
p.s. Pun all you want to; I always thought it was great that we two would think up the same things in wholly different stories! Feel free to use the idea; it's not like I have the corner market on hobbits wearing spectacles! :-) Have a fantastic day!

Oh, this is sweet! I LOVE Merry's gift. I'm going to be good, and wait until you post the fixed up chapters here, rather than cheat and read them on ff.net :P

Author Reply: lol...Pippin/*good*...Pervinca/*good*...hmmm sounds more like *trouble* to me!:-) But I wouldn't have Pervinca or Pippin any other way! Everybody/everyhobbit has a gift in life, and Merry's is art. A rather short story, but I think it's sweet, too. Take care.
