Author Reply: I guess one could say that I was inspired by those who were married a lot longer than I was! I think it's so romantic to see an elderly couple, married for fifty years, strolling hand-in-hand in the park. I love to hear about folks--like our own mutual friends--who have been married for well over twenty years, and I know you'll get there, too. Thank you, Myst, for reading the story, and for all of your wonderful reviews! Have a great day!

Oh the ANGST! All that delicious angst! I have to go put my sllippers on all this talk of cold is making me shiver.

Author Reply: Yeah, I got quite descriptive with the frosty air, didn't I? I suppose my own toes were chilled, which is how it became quite the freeze box in Buckland. Take care.

This just gets sweeter and sweeter. I love it! But then I am a sucker for a sweet love story.

Mys

Author Reply: So am I; that's why I read your own sweet romance, Enigmas: The Life and Love of Linwe Taralom and Frodo Baggins (?) The Flanagan gene is kicking in again...hope I got the title correct. But what a *fantastic* story!

Now the tears are starting and the suriosity is stronger than ever. What happened? I am moving onto the next chapter.

Author Reply: Like every child, Merry wants to know if his parents loved each other. He sees it now, but during the 'turbulent' years, he spent a lot of time with his uncle Paladin, so he wasn't well acquainted with his parents affection between one another, such as a kiss here and there. However those years were hard on their relationship, and quite possibly there wasn't a lot of that affection for him to witness anyway. Thanks for reviewing...

Hi there!!!

I wanted to read something of yours that is finished so I started here. I really like it. I am very curious to see where this story goes. I love that Merry knows just where his mum's lines are from but realizes he does not know the story behind his da's.

See you next chapter,
Mys

Author Reply: Merry had a completely different relationship with his Da than he did with his mum, so he was very intimate with her in that he watched her crow's feet grow deep as she aged. Those were enigmas(!) to Merry when it came to his Da, though the "different relationship" had been put behind him pretty much at this point.

Ah, he used Sam's trick of feigning sleep :P Wonderful ending - I loved Saradoc's gifts. And the element of drama (with Saradoc nearly freezing to death) added that little more sweetness. :)

Author Reply: LOL...They're all experts at feigning sleep, but I believe this was the first time I had Merry do it. Usually its Pippin! Yes, Saradoc had a one-track mind that day--and snow or cold wasn't going to get in his way. Thank you so much for RE-reading (hehehe) and reviewing! Take care!

Beautiful and the three of them were so very loving that this was a very special story. Loved every minute of this one.

Author Reply: Thank you, Grey Wonderer! A lovely compliment, indeed, because that is exactly what I wanted to convey; a loving family at heart. Thanks for reading it!

Absolutely delightful story. I'm a sucker for happy marriages. ( and only two years short of my own thirtieth ) I'm so glad you have Merry and his father getting along so well finally. But I really thought Saradoc would be getting her emeralds--you have an original mind.

Author Reply: I'm a sucker for happy marriages, too! Here's to your Twenty-ninth! (raises her pepsi can). Thank you for your encouragement and kind words!

You have something in this one that I haven't seen before, (no pun intended) but glasses! I have read dozens of these and yours is the first to refer to any hobbit with glasses that I have seen! I was beginning to think all of those delightful little folks had 20/20 vision. LOL
Love Merry's talk with his mum by the way.

Author Reply: Well, they're not glasses as we know today; they're those old granny spectacles that sit on the nose. And they're not like presciptions we get, but more like one-magnification-fits-all reading glasses we see in the store today. If my desdcription doesn't exactly fit that, then please let me know so I can adjust it. I did a little web research and found that glasses have been around for ages. Pearl Took is living proof (she looks like a hobbit!) that these "little folks" don't have 20/20 vision--she wears glasses like I do, but I'm too tall to be a hobbit. :-P

Yes, it was Merry's little talk to his mum that was altered. It was heavily steeped in why's and wherefor's of his and his fahter's early estrangement, and I decided I wanted these stories to be able to stand on their own; I may allude to that relationship, but only in a way a reader who hasn't read my ealier fics isn't left scratching their head...too much!

Take care,
Pippinfan
p.s. Pun all you want to; I always thought it was great that we two would think up the same things in wholly different stories! Feel free to use the idea; it's not like I have the corner market on hobbits wearing spectacles! :-) Have a fantastic day!
