I've always loved this battle - if one can love a battle - you've captured it well!

p.s.

You really ought to write a companion drabble (if you haven't already) with the same last line, or perhaps the "Eagles" cry at the start, a sort of mirror.

Marvellous. Difficult to believe that these are all drabbles, considering their flow and the scintillating pictures drawn by the words.

Yes, the Eagles have come, and the stupidity which would have led to fruitless strife is seen in perspective, and all are saved, from themselves as much as from the foe.

Author Reply: There's nothing like a common foe to bring people together. The petty arguments were forgotten very quickly in the face of the goblins and wolves. Thank Eru for the Eagles!

Nice one, Jay. You paint a vivid picture of the battle.

Author Reply: I had great fun reading the chapter carefully and picking out all the references I wanted to use to bring it to life. I'm glad it seemed so vivid.

Nicely done, Jay. :-)

Author Reply: Thank you - I'm glad you liked it.

You've manage to capture the essence of the chapter here and I like this line, 'Cold flame flickers from sword and spear and arrow, burning with immortal hate.' Very Elvish. Was this for the Hobbit drabbling on HASA?

Author Reply: I started reading The Hobbit again, because of Daw - particularly the later chapters. I had all sorts of inspirations to drabble various scenes! I've always liked this part, because I now imagine Legolas and Thranduil in the middle of the battle. The line you quote comes from a part Tolkien described - I'm glad you liked it!
