Beta readers can be cruel!

Author Reply: Elladan was trying to be supportive - I think he remembers his own first crushes a very long time ago. He and Elrohir will laugh about it later.

That's quite sweet. Estel's definitely not a poet :)

Author Reply: Poor Estel. The poem isn't very original, is it? Elladan was very tactful.

Poor Estel. Imagine having to exhibit not only first love, but first poetry to a 3k year old elf.

On a technical point - drabbles are 100 words, aren't they? Do the crossings-out count as words, or can they sneak in as extras?

Author Reply: Elladan was very tactful, wasn't he? Perhaps he remembers what it was like - after all, elves have perfect recall!

The crossings-out do indeed count in the total. All my drabbles are exactly 100 words according to Word, but they all vary depending on where I post them (SoA says this one is 99 words long). I love the strike-through font - this drabble would have been impossible without it!

Sounds as if young Estel does indeed have a way to go. Nice to see the earliest experiments!

Author Reply: I hope the recipient of his poetry attempts appreciates the trouble he took! (I don't know who she is, but gave her golden hair to establish that it wasn't Arwen.)

Awww! Isn't this cute! Estel stumbling over poetry, being brave enough to show it to Elladan--and Elladan responding to it so kindly. How encouraging that would be. I love the image of Estel (or any guy) trying to write a poem about his love. :-)

Author Reply: I'm not sure that he was brave to show Elladan - he knew he had no choice! But he trusted Elladan not to laugh. Glad you like this!

Uncommonly sympathetic of Elladan to say that! It is so nice he for once doesn't tease poor Estel!

Author Reply: It would be too mean for Elladan to tease him - the twins are very fond of their little brother really. I think Elladan can still remember being in Estel's shoes - long, long, ago!

What an understanding brother, to offer a sympathetic touch rather than teasing.

Very nicely done!

(Wonder if they could make a poet out of me...)

Mum

Author Reply: I think that Elladan (a very long time ago) was perhaps once in a similar situation, so he knows how it feels.

Thanks for reviewing!

Estel writes poetry like I do! Only no one has the power to make a poet out of me, unfortunately.

Author Reply: Poor Estel. I was trying to think of something beautiful to write, then realised that for this, mundane would be better!

Don't worry, Daw, you're a far better writer than Estel is!
