Jay's Drabblets  by Jay of Lasgalen 9 Review(s)

hah! This was (almost) glorious!

(I say *almost* because dh and I almost walked out of FOTR at that point... we couldn't see anything good coming of such toying with the Original. Took me months to forgive PJ, and as it was, I watched TTT with something akin to weary resignation, only chortling a bit when Sam said (in Osgiliath) with such desperation, "We're not even supposed to BE here!"

Too true.

Hehehe! Great! I really needed a good laugh after the last week. This was perfect! Thanks!

Author Reply: Poor Glorfindel. He needed a really cunning revenge after Arwen stole Asfaloth - and this was just right. He'll make her suffer for a long time.

LMAO! An answer to why Arwen and not Glorfindel in the movie! I love it! I can just imagine Glorfindel would be plenty teed off at Arwen's audacity. And the punishment sublime -- who can endure hearing their childhood embarrassments told for all to hear? Wonderful, Jay!

Author Reply: I don't think Glorfindel, or elves in general, would go in for physical punishment - and Arwen would probably hit him back if he did. This is much more subtle!

Oh yes! I really had few complaints about PJ's adaptation of FOTR, but I was disappointed with the whole Ford of Bruinen scene. This is priceless! Oh, to be a fly on the wall during THAT story-telling session! (or during the mayhem that will surely follow!) ~TF

Author Reply: I think Glorfindel and the twins will have a wonderful time reliving all Arwen's most embarrassing moments - and embroidering them if necessary. Revenge is sweet.

I liked the drabble, especially Glorfindel's (justified) annoyance :)

Author Reply: I expect Glorfindel was furious with Arwen - but he couldn't slap her. This revenge was far sweeter!

Yes!! And Jay the Bard should detail them!!

Much as I love Arwen - this steal-the-horse-and-rescue-the-hobbit Arwen is a travesty.

I love the prospect of Glorfindel getting his revenge in such a delightfully vindictive yet pain-free way. Clever elf. Clever elf-recorder.

Author Reply: 'Jay the Bard'? *grin* I like that!

Glorfindel must have a long memory of Arwen's misdemeanours. Aided and abetted by the twins, he is going to make her suffer!

*LOL*
That's perfect! Arwen deserves a punishment for not only stealing Asfaloth, but Glorfindel's part in the movie as well! I could understand Peter Jacksons reasons, but I still prefer Glorfindel there. So this was exact what I needed!

Author Reply: Poor Glorfindel deserves some compensation for what happened. This will be far more subtle than just spanking her - and it will last. I can just imagine Aragorn telling their children some of these tales eventually!

Ha! I love it. Pity elves didn't have photography--he could have hauled out pictures (or home movies!) of baby Arwen in her bath or as a nekkid toddler giggling on a big fluffy rug. That would have taught her a lesson!

Great idea, Jay. This is the best example of Glorfindel's revenge I've seen.

Author Reply: *Grin* Thanks!

It was my son's 21st birthday recently, and he had a party with his mates. I dug out all those embarrassing baby photos of him to show round, much to his horror! I wish Glorfindel could have done the same - but he'll manage to make her suffer.

Oh, I LOVE this! I missed Glorfindel in both movie versions, although as one who has done adaptations of books I understand how you can't have EVERY BLAMED CHARACTER there is or the movie will never manage to get done. To have the substitution of Legolas in Bakshi's and Arwen in Jackson's both made sense.

But to have Glorfindel claiming his own steed back and then to make that threat--which you KNOW he can carry out in almost three thousand years worth of detail----

Oh, how lovely a thought!

Author Reply: Three thousand years, perfect elven recall - and the help of the twins. That's a lot of embarrassing memories! Arwen is so going to regret this.

Thanks for the reviews!
