I love this--writing Arod's previous owner is too clever! Very well done. And very sad, really.

Author Reply: Yes, it is sad - because whoever he was, we all know he never survived the battle with the orcs :(

And if he watches from the halls of his fathers, I would imagine he is content to see Arod in the loving care of the elf.

Such a bleak time - and so much courage displayed by so many in the face of overwhelming odds.

Author Reply: That's the recurring theme in Tolkien I like most - courage despite the odds. We know this Rider did not survive, but I agree, he would be happy to see Arod now.

Wow, i really liked this drabble. It was really cool but sad to see the former owner of Arod.

Author Reply: Thanks! I like sad. I sometimes wonder about Arod's Rider - Tolkien never named him.

He rode for Rohan, and rests now near the eaves of Fangorn Forest.

Lovely imagery.

Author Reply: Poor anonymous Rider. I wonder what Arod thought of losing his master, but gaining an elf?

Ooh! Arod's original rider! I never even thought about him. What a good idea, Jay.

Author Reply: The poor chap isn't even named, is he? For some reason, I've often thought of him. He must have been a loyal companion to Éomer to face exile and death for him.
