For Frodo  by Anso the Hobbit 2 Review(s)

This is such a tricky subject to tackle. How much do Merry and Pippin tell their families, if anything at all, and in what way. You have done a very nice job with this. Pippin's sadness is very convincing. He doesn't plan to abandon Frodo, but he still wishes he could just go home. I don't blame him. And then he makes Merry worry and has to reassure him. Very nice :)

You know, this section of canon has alway bothered me. As responsible as Merry was, being trained as the next Master of Buckland, he MUST have felt guilty about just 'running off into the Blue' and not letting his family know he was even alive. And Pippin is still so young - he would surely have been homesick. I'm glad you wrote this ficlet on that missing section of canon. The visual image of sleepy Merry all curled up in a warm bed was just delightful, as well as his instinctive, automatic comforting of Pippin. A thoroughly heart-warming little story.
