Frodo's Light  by SoundofHorns 9 Review(s)
Aly TeimaReviewed Chapter: 1 on 4/7/2004
That was stunning, so very beautiful. It said everything I've ever wanted to be said about Sam and everything I know he is, how Frodo sees him and how no one
else seems to (although I think Gandalf knew exactly what he was doing when he
sent Sam with Frodo, as thought Sam would be left behind!!)

Thank you for those powerful, lovely words

Really, really powerful!
Very much in character, and I loved how vehement Frodo is about wanting others to see Sam as he does. My husband and I went with our friends to see ROTK (for the third time :) and decided that it was really Sam's story.
Anyway, a very good piece and it flowed nicely.

Rakshi recommended this and, oh, I'm glad she did. This was wonderful! I never thought to doubt that Faramir's prophecy meant anyone other than Frodo but you're right! It's all about the Sam!

Thanks so much.

So beautiful -- structurally and poetically. Thank you. Yes, this is just what Frodo would say. Rakshi sent me here, and am I glad she did! Just what I needed to ease the pain of the end of ROTK. Sigh.

What a startlingly beautiful story! Not beautiful in images, but rather in thought and emotion. To hear Frodo so clearly speak of Sam's true identity as Frodo sees it himself -- the only one, perhaps, who can see it -- gives the feeling -- "Ah, this *is* the way it was."

A favourite moment of mine: "It hits me then, and I hold back sudden burst of stark laughter. I cannot tell the whole story because it is not my story. After all, I was unconscious for the exciting parts."

I would only argue with Frodo on that point: that it indeed is both of their stories, for each experienced the journey in their own ways, and yet together. Sam cannot tell the whole story either, for he did not have the internal struggle with the Ring (albeit for a very brief part). Nevertheless, Frodo's grief and loyalty towards Sam is raw and honest and compelling, and he is only saying it how he sees it. Thank you for this lovely story.

This is stunning. Utterly, amazingly stunning. One of the best pieces of LOTR fanfiction I've ever read.

"They didn’t feel the tremors in your muscles as you carried me for hours or hear the harsh whistling note as you gasped for breath. They have not lain naked and brutalized in an orc tower and hoped for death…only to hear your voice lift up in song. They did not see the Phial blaze with light in your hand…your simple gardener’s hand. A hand that held mine at the end."

Thank you for sharing this gem with us.

Let me be the first to congratulate you on your very fine story. I like the style of your writing, simple but well constructed, and it packs a subtle punch.
"I will make them see you as I see you. My light when all other lights go out."
Oh shoot. *Wipes eyes* Sorry this review isn't very constructive. And now I'm going to go read the other one.

Author Reply: wow thanks. i appreciate it.

Author Reply: Again, WOW. I'm just amazed at the story myself. I wrote it months ago, forgot it, and reread it...then asked, Did I write this?? I'm just glad I can share.
