Thank you for that, I'm sitting here crying. I see so few Legolas/hobbit stories. This is perfect.

This was sad yet a beautiful renewal of spirit at the same time. Throughout the death of each hobbit, Legolas was always there, as a form of continuity. Lovely.

This is quite touching without dissolving into maudlin sentamentality. If I have any criticism, it is that the ending seems quite abrupt to me. I liked the gathering to hear the words of the Shire for Merry, but I wish that Frodo and Sam's ceremonies could have been a little more elaborated on. Did they die before or after Legolas arrives in Valinor? And who listened to Legolas' words? If you ever consider revising this, I'd love to have just a few more sentences at the end. But I do like it as it is too.

Author Reply: I axed out about eight pages. The ending was tough to write because I felt I WAS slipping into sentimentality. Frodo and Sam's ceremony would have been simply Legolas, Gimli and Gandalf - Frodo already did the honors for Bilbo. As for their deaths, all the hobbits were dead by the time Legolas arrived in Valinor.

The listeners were Gimli, Aragorn, Arwen, and a few members of the court. If I do an edit, I will include the identies of the listeners.

Awww! So sad, but full of love. "a small group gathered to hear words from the Shire." What a delicately written story.

So sad and so lovely.

This is very sweet and touching. Legolas is such a kind soul. I don't know if I could handle being the one left behind as my friends died.

Author Reply: I started writing with the intention of having the story be from Merry's POV but Legolas surprised me and took over. His thoughts on death proved surprisingly easy to depict once my mind connected mortals and flowers.
