What a charming family scenario to start a story! These Tooks are wonderful Hobbit prototypes each having distinct, appealing characters.

In Paladin's leavetaking of Pervinka you reveal so much about her. She's fretful, she freely and trustingly shows her emotions, is obviously game for adventure when she's out to play, she shows a bit of sibling rivalry in hoping to make Pippin jealous, aand, when the chips are down, has a Hobbit's loving, generous, nature.

My favorite line is Paladin's, "I never daudle when my heart is here in Whitwell."

You show you know children well. Isn't it always the way when you are getting little ones ready to go out that there's got to be that last minute complication? It's also just like children to be stubbornly attached to a garment one day and despise it the next. I love picturing Pippin in a hat with the strings tied under his little chin!

You also establish the relationship between Merry and Pippin within a scant few minutes and lines of dialogue. There was Merry, helping Pip in one moment and teasing him in the next.

This is a sweet, bustling, first chapter. Whatever took me so long to find your stories?
