I laughed so hard when I read this one. I can soooo imagine Faramir standing on a table, tankard raised (maybe in Meduseld), drunk and recite this lyric poem!

Aye! Give me more of this!

Author Reply: You want MORE?

Sorcha, have you ANY idea what monsters you risk releasing with a statement such as that? The world of LOTR fanfic just quivered...QUIVERED I tell you.

next time writer's block sets in - shouldn't be long. Lindorien

Hillarious! I haven't laughed so hard in a long time!!! I always knew Faramir was hiding something! ;)

Author Reply: I'm so glad you liked this Lady Freya. We ALL know that Faramir is hiding something! And he does it so well. A fine actor is our noble Prince of Ithilien, somebody should give him an Oscar! ;) Thanks for reading!

Exactly HOW LONG did it take you to find rhymes for everything? :)

Yes, he seems happy. A little TOO happy, if you ask me. Like he's a refugee from Disney. :)

Author Reply: hehe - this actually took a couple of days. Not constant work mind you, but considering it off and on. I sent it around to friends for commentary and had a little help. The hardest bit was finally coming up with the word 'culmination' because I needed the alliteration used in G and S's piece. Once I had that, I knew I was finished. Most of the rest of it went pretty quickly.

Yes - he's happy happy happy. But that's what the challenge was all about.

Though - I doubt Disney would have approved of his behavior.

Gotta love Pirate of Penzance! Now just how did you know to combine my favorite comedic opera with my favorite character from LOTR? :) Great job on a very hard-to-write song parody.

Author Reply: Thanks. Do not ask me where my inspiration came from. I was probably off my medications or something!

I have the same settlement as runaround: the mental image of Faramir singing this at a bar. Yet another one of him skipping down an early spring road in full song. (Yep, I'm mad.)
Good. Very good.

Author Reply:

hehe - if he were skipping down a road in early spring singing at the top of his lungs he'd be saying - 'The Uruks that travel in spring -- tra-la -- bring pippin and merry hogtied..."

I'm shutting up.

Very nice song parody! It's funny and scans well.

Author Reply: Thanks technetium! I keep telling myself that Writer's Block is my friend.

Or perhaps my worst enemy.

I know not which, but it does tend to produce stuff like this!

That was just hysterical! This is my favorite line:"In short, in matters military, dissolute and homemade gin,
I am the culmination of a Captain of Ithilien," but it was great from beginning to end!

Author Reply: Then I can put you down as being in favor of one for Boromir titled "Captain of the Army Gondor'?

How about Faramir as poor little Buttercup?

Arwen, Galadriel and Eowyn as three little maids from school are we?

will stop now. I'm really glad you liked this. I had a ton of fun writing it!

*applauds*

I got the funniest mental image of Faramir singing this song in a bar while drunk. great stuff.

Author Reply: AndI just got the funniest mental image of Faramir ending up in a fistfight over this song, getting himself arrested and thrown in the clink for the night while he protests, "But you can't do that! I'm the Prince of Ithilien!"

"PRINCE of Ithilien, is it now laddie? Thought you were the Captain! And we be the King of Gondor, every one of us! We will speak with you in the morning, when you've had a chance to sober up. Now quiet! Everybody would like to get some sleep!"

Save us! Does anyone know where Gilbert and Sullivan are buried? I really think we should alert the authorities. Those boys must be spinning in their graves.

I, on the other hand, am laughing hysterically. I shall be humming this tomorrow no doubt. Go, Faramir! Thou hast outlived them all!

In truth, I fear the consequences of this current action, for I am lately overcome by a desire to do one for Boromir's very own titled "Captain of the Army Gondor". That's because he's hardly ever sick at sea.

I likewise muse upon the possibilities of the Shakespearian Version of LOTR -- "Alas poor Uruk! I knew him well, Mablung, a being of infinite jest."
My dear, depressed Danish Prince of Ithilien.

Mayhap our noble Faramir would not ensnare an orc with a lie, but he might well cause one to die laughing.
