With Friends Like These  by Jay of Lasgalen 1 Review(s)
LKKReviewed Chapter: 5 on 12/7/2003
Hello! I'm having a grand ol' time rereading this story from beginning to end. (Well, sort of to "the end", since it's still ongoing over at fanfiction.net, but you know what I mean. I hope!) I loved the irony of Legolas scaring the twins with his fake spider only to be scared by a real one himself. Good for Legolas for realizing that the danger of an actual spider was more important than any punishment he might receive for having been out playing the trick. Not every child would have made that decision, I warrant.

A comment or two regarding the earlier chapters -- Legolas' solution to the indistiguishable twins was ingenious: call them both Ellahir. (Congratulations to a very ingenious author as well!) Much amusement over the fact that Elrond sometimes can't tell which son is which, but Arwen always can. And major hilarity over Elrond's "confusion" as to which son was born first!

Looking forward to more chapters migrating from fanfiction.net so that I can revisit the joy of newly forming friendships. (And I'm very curious as to what "the truth" that Legolas is so ashamed of is in the last posted ff.net chapter. My guess: he feels ashamed at being mentally paralyzed by the child's sudden appearance on the archery field. Even though that fact is nothing to be ashamed of, it's the sort of thing a youngster who sets high standards for himself would berate himself on.)

Author Reply: Legolas has been brought up well - he does recognise his duty, which is why he told his father about the spider. Which is also why Thranduil did not punish him for sneaking out at night - honesty pays!
