| I know I already reviewed this story on FF.net, but I would like to repeat my request for more based on this premise. Maybe another one-shot of some of those dreams Sam alluded to? Or perhaps futher explaination on the nature of Sam/Alatar, maybe set in Valinor? Once again, a first class fic. Merimas Author Reply: Hi again and thanks for reviewing me on this site as well! I sincerely hope to expand this into a full tale, but I can't make any promises time-wise because I honestly don't know when I'll find the time to get that done. Meanwhile, I'm thinking about adding at least an epilogue of sorts to this short fic, most likely centered around Sam's arrival in Valinor. It's on the list, at least! | What a clever and unusual take on one of my favorite characters. Sam has always been the unsung hero and now you have given us a possible explanation. AU it may be but I do hope you someday get round to sharing the 'whole' story with us. Well done Author Reply: Thank you so much for the kind words! I'm so pleased that you didn't think I'd mauled Sam's character too badly with the idea. :) I do hope that I can find the time to work this into a much longer tale, as I have some exciting ideas that I'd like to write. | Um, are you implying that Sam is really one of the Maiar in the disguise of a hobbit? If so I am not so sure I can go along with the idea as I like the thought that he's just a hobbit, nothing more or less! Still, what you have written is well-writen - it is just not an idea I am sure I can go along with! Author Reply: Hello and thanks for your review! I'm not promoting the idea that Sam is anything other than himself--it was just an idea I had for a fanfic. I promise I'm not proposing it as a belief system---hence the AU label. Just having a little fun with a concept I'd never seen before, that's all. Actually, I think the idea would greatly undermine the importance of Sam's character--and the character of hobbits in general--too much to take seriously. I appreciate your comments and promise that I would never undervalue the excellent hobbit that is dear old Sam. :) | |

| Fascinating, utterly fascinating. And very courageous to tell such a tale! Is this inspired by what Frodo says in FOTR, "He'll end up by becoming a wizard -- or a warrior." I'm very impressed by your story, and look forward to whatever you come up with next. Author Reply: Thanks so much for the kind words. I'm a great fan of your hobbits, so your review means a great deal. I love that you remember that particular line from FOTR! It wasn't the inspiration, but if I ever expand this idea, I will definitely use it in some fashion. I came across it while re-reading FOTR after I'd hit upon this concept and I thought it was hilarious...a ready-made quote for my wildly AU fanfic. Gotta love that Tolkien. :) | |
