You set up the friendship so clearly through word and action! I like this Glorfindel, so able to understand what his friend is going through and that Elrond needs to know where his true power lies.

This is beautifully thought out. I think so often Elrond's power and sternness are emphasized over his kindness. But his generosity and hospitality are what made Rivendell known as the Last Homely House. It was also Glorfindel's kindness in reminding him of this. Very nicely done.

Author Reply: Thank you! In LotR I think we mainly get to see stern!Elrond because that is what the situation demands. It's well worth going back to see how he is characterised in The Hobbit.

"the kindest deeds matter more than the mightiest": I was reading along, enjoying this story and then I came to this line and, sap that I am, tears came to my eyes. In the long run, for all of us, this is the truth, even if we haven't been wielding rings of power.

Author Reply: Thanks! It's a while since I wrote that story and I can hardly believe I came up with something so wise.
