This is a marvelous first story! Both hobbits are still compelled to "see the job done" and keep moving, even when the need has passed. Excellent insights and dialogue. I hope we see more from you.

Author Reply: Thank you so much! I hope to see more from me too. I'm reassured that the dialogue was not OOC - it was difficult to grasp at the time of writing.

I really liked this story. Well done.
The dialogue between Mery and Pippin was very in character.
I can just imagine Frodo and Sam slipping back into the distraction of travelling and the image of Sam mentally still carrying his heavy load is quite haunting.

Author Reply: Thank you for the review! Merry and Pippin are simultaneously the easiest and the hardest characters to write, I feel; they have this lively banter that can fill any space, but if you miss the mark then all the dialogue feels off-kilter. As for Sam and Frodo ... I had this image of them silhouetted against the sinking sun, visibly strained under their imaginary burdens. Talk about muscle memory!
