| Oh, my! Is Bill dreaming? Is he semi-conscious? How soon will he become aware of his surroundings once more? Author Reply: Bill is experiencing something like a waking dream in the current chapters. At this time, Sam is the Ring-bearer, and it is because of the power of the Ring that Sam and Bill have a more direct connection to each other in this part of the story. That also means that things will change when the Ring passes back to Frodo (if that is not too much of a spoiler). Thanks! | |

| It makes sense that the hobbits' idea of Heaven would be a Feast. And if there is a "pony heaven," then Bill certainly deserves to go there. I'm guessing that maybe they have him on a blanket in a wagon, and Bert is apparently riding with him. I guess we'll find out in the next chapter when they get wherever they're going. I love the way he has compassion for all other horses, even the ones that belonged to the Nazgul. Author Reply: Excellent guess! The next chapter adds some clarity to the picture, as you expected. Thanks for pointing out details that you love; it helps me see the story through someone else's eyes and serves as encouragement to continue to add in details as I smooth out the draft chapters into polished form. (Sometimes I worry that I include too many details and they bog the story down... I can get pretty long-winded when I'm immersed in Tolkien's world.) | |

| There is something very gentle about this chapter. Dear Bill! I'm so glad to know that our wonderful pony makes it through this ordeal. Author Reply: I'm glad you picked up gentleness here. I was aiming for a dreamlike quality in this chapter. Outside of Bill's current sphere of perception, he is being handled with great gentleness and care (though that will only be revealed later).
