More of Alyrin! Hurrah!

She had seemed especially down after her young Riders friends had left the morning before.
How difficult it must have been to have been left behind. I remember reading about Merry watching the Army march away from the City. I even looked up the passage just now:
The last glint of the morning sun on spear and helm twinkled and was lost, and still he remained with bowed head and heavy heart, feeling friendless and alone. Everyone that he cared for had gone away into the gloom that hung over the distant eastern sky; and little hope at all was left in his heart that he would ever see any of them again. As if recalled by his mood of despair, the pain in his arm returned, and he felt weak and old, and the sunlight seemed thin.

I wonder, was it worse for Merry, watching them march away, or for Éowyn, confined to her bed when the Army departed? Equally bad, I suppose.

She said a quick word to Béma asking his protection remain over Waerith, took a deep breath and tried to look forward and not back. ...a picture of courage, especially considering the times.

(Kindred spirits! I like fuss-free clothes, too.)

(You make the Warden sound so real.)

he seemed to see straight into her heart, past her defenses This fits well with Gandalf's description of Faramir.

I do love how Éowyn and Faramir take the measure of each other, along with the common ground you reveal here.

Despite the hurt and loss and desperate situation, this chapter left me smiling.

Hello! More Alyrin! I agree. She started as a bit player guiding Eomer to where Eowyn lay and she just took the reins of her character and started running with it! :-)) Spirited girl! I think she will one of the reasons Eowyn proclaims she will become a healer! Also the treatment she received at the Houses and her own burgeoning interest in herbs that she absorbed from being around Leoulf and Holdlith! It had to come from somewhere.

"How difficult it must have been to have been left behind." For both her and Merry. Another bond that is formed.

"She said a quick word to Béma asking his protection remain over Waerith, took a deep breath and tried to look forward and not back. ...a picture of courage, especially considering the times."

Eowyn knows no other way. She is trying really hard to look forward, even though she isn't seeing any future worth living for (... at this point) :-))

"(Kindred spirits! I like fuss-free clothes, too.)" So do I. I am irked if it takes me more than 5 minutes in the morning to figure out what I am wearing and then just throw it on!

"(You make the Warden sound so real.)" Thanks. He just seemed to be one of those sympathetic characters. I think in the chapter "The Steward and the King!" he mentions that he was glad to see the lonely hearts of Faramir and Eowyn find each other in time of war. *sigh*

"he seemed to see straight into her heart, past her defenses This fits well with Gandalf's description of Faramir."

Exactly. And that is what Eowyn needs right now. Someone who Sees her, not just what they expect to see. Ah! Faramir. Finally I get to write him in this story. It has been a long time in coming!

"I do love how Éowyn and Faramir take the measure of each other, along with the common ground you reveal here."

I am glad that came through. I was trying to write a meeting between the two that seemed real. This relationship has lived in my heart since high school. Who says Tolkien couldn't write romance when he put his mind to it! *sigh*

"Despite the hurt and loss and desperate situation, this chapter left me smiling."

Yay!!!!! The chapters before the House of Healing have been so hard to write because Eowyn was at the lowest points in her life. I kept driving towards these chapters! :-))

Chapter 39 is almost ready!

Thanks for writing. Hope you are well!

"And might I say what a beautifully written review! If you don't mind, should it come up, could I possibly use that sentence in my next chapter?"

Thank you, and of course you may!

Such devotion Eirik has for Faramir. I am glad of it; Faramir needs it.

“The Lord Faramir looked up again and the blue depths seemed to see her, she was caught by the gentle look in his light blue eyes, he seemed to see straight into her heart, past her defenses. There was no pretense or pretension, only an unnerving communion of sorts”
“‘Do not misunderstand him, lord,’ said Éowyn with fervor. ‘It is not lack of care that grieves me. No houses could be fairer, for those who desire to be healed. But I cannot lie in sloth, idle, caged.” She stated this all, wondering how she could admit so much to a man she had known for seconds. Yet as she stared into the gentle blue depths, she could not help but admit all to this gentle man who had yet to utter a single word to her. “I looked for death in battle. But I have not died, and battle still goes on.”

Faramir! * happy squeal*

“Éowyn received his stare and though she saw grave tenderness in his eyes, she somehow knew that his fierceness in battle would be the match of any in the Riddermark.” Right. I always liked that part about him not one outmatched by a Rider. And then thinking if he is as strong as Boromir, but Boromir was killed by Ugluk, but Éomer killed Ugluk, would then Éomer be stronger?

All this talk about Éowyn wanting employment, I thought “I would go on any errand now you would devise to send me on.” Which is more or less a line from Shakespeare.

"A cage." Éowyn stopped. The word was more than she had meant to say, far more than she had meant to reveal.
She looked at Faramir, not knowing what she expected to see, but a small almost admiring smile was on his face and the quiet compassion and understanding had not left his eyes.” awwww.

I think I may be in the Faramir fanclub, lol.

PS: Do you know of a version of this scene written from Faramir’s POV?

Thank you so much! So glad you liked it! Those chapters where Eowyn and Faramir meet and fall in love have been with me since I read them in high school! Always been in the Faramir fan club and though it was a little different I loved David Wenham as Faramir in the films!

Eirik is very devoted to Faramir. He idolizes him!

Funny that you should ask about Faramir's POV. I actually have a story about Faramir's POV at this point in the Ring War. It is on here and it is called "Bound by duty; Bound by joy."

I hope you like it, if you choose to read it!

They both recognize the Light in each other, although Eowyn's shell of frustration and anger holding her bitter heart in chains will take longer to crumble. What a beautifully-written chapter.

These are the chapters that I have been waiting to write. They are the chapters that have kept me going through some of Eowyn's darkest times.

So glad you liked it!
