My Mortal Brother  by Adrianne 3 Review(s)

Finally I've gotten over here to read this lovely tale. It has been such a long time since I read your early draft. This final version is wonderful. You capture Legolas' musings in a way that seems so true to his long years and the depth of his friendship with Aragorn. His choice to wear his clothes from the quest is fitting; his final statement is perfect, heartbreaking and uplifting.
This is a gem of a tale!

Author Reply: Thanks so much Ruth. When I came on the computer this morning and saw that I had a review for my story, I was stunned. Good grief, nobody ever reads this story. I'm glad it was you because you were there from the beginning of it. You make me want to give it a go once again and post something else.

Much Love, Adrianne

Truly Beautiful...Just brought tears to my eyes.

"The man smiled then with true mirth and the transformation that occurred in his often grim and rugged face was stunning"... This statement is so true. It's amazing what a smile can do to a face (like the moment at the end of ROTK film when Aragorn flashed that dazzling smile at Frodo when the remaining fellowship were together again..totally changed his grim features). Just the way Tolkien described Aragorn...grim but mirth that would come out like a spring (not exactly in those words..bit you know what I mean).

Author Reply: Thank you so much. I have always loved Tolkien's descriptions of Aragorn as a man with a kind of hidden glory and strength that would manifest itself at various times. And I truly delight in the unashamed love that the members of the Fellowship expressed for one another. I tried to capture a little of that in this story.

Your kind words are much appreciated

Lovely, rich details.

And a puzzling subject. I like to think that Tolkien meant for them all to meet beyond the circles of the world, but how would they know? I guess they just had to have faith, as you say.

Author Reply: Thank you so much for your kind comments. It took me a very long time to make the decision to actually post a story here.

I agree that Tolkien meant for all of Eru's children to eventually be joined when Arda was unmarred, but Men as well as Elves had nothing to go on really but estel, hope and faith. Even the Valar did not know what awaited the Elves but I have never harbored the idea that there would be anything but joyous reunion with their once mortal brethren.

Thank you, again.
