| Oh no! Legolas and Sam! But Gimli is here to take care of them, and he being the one best suited to being underground, he will keep his head. I got a good giggle at Merry's stream of thought as he ran. Very Merry--he never stops thinking! Author Reply: Gimli is truly at home amidst his beloved stones, however dire the situation might be! | I was so busy worrying about Frodo that I completely forgot about Sam and Legolas! I'm glad Gimli is there. Oh, and this part: (“Yes,” Elrond whispered. “Find Frodo. I fear for him.” ) I love the way Gandalf came to Elrond and the way the two of them know instantly what must be done. | This is such a wonderfully organized story! And I cannot tell you HOW very happy I am that you brought Aragorn back early (especially with damp, freshly washed hair . . . *sigh*) to go to the rescue. Okay, I'm off to the next chapter, because I seem to recall you mentioning that you were getting to the hobbit h/c soon, and I know what that surely must mean . . . . | Loved how the folks of valley, have sprung into action. Funny I have this vision of Lord Elrond sort of mentally plugging the hole with his finger,like the boy and the dike. I am not at all sure I should be thinking of Lord Elrond like that. Ah well it is stuck there. looking forward to more. Author Reply: Thanks, Grumpy. And your image is as good as any other! | oh wow! Legolas and Sam are both hurt! oh no! Let the rescue teams come quickly! Awesome dialogue between Gandalf and Elrond-- they always seem to be on the same page-- i hope help will come soon! eeee~! this is exciting SB-- keep it up! I want to hear to hear the wraith next! | Eep! Help is coming and Elrond is managing to hold back the river - but will they be able to dig Legolas and Sam out in time? Poor Legolas! Poor Sam! Had to giggle at Gimli's derision over Legolas's love of tree roots! Author Reply: This is such a culture shock for poor Gimli. Tolkien doesn't tell us whether or not he ever even *met* an Elf before this trip to Rivendell. Thanks for reading. :) | |

| Ah. Excellent. One of your best. Sparse dialogue, deft description, skillful timing, spot-on characterisation. This moment was particularly Gandalfish: “I know some things, and will soon learn others." Author Reply: Thank you, I like that line as well! Gandalf keeps his own counsel, and says only what he needs to. I'm very happy you're enjoying this. :) | |
