Pippin and Estella Bolger? I think not! Silly old Thain! Author Reply: Silly old Thain. I think the arrangement started out as a favor to Odo (who had to find a Took for his daughter to marry per Bolger family tradition) long before Paladin became Thain, with the stipulation that either party could dissolve the agreement, but when Paladin was saddled with the Thainship and no resources, the fortune that Estella would bring with her proved too tempting. Not that Paladin was greedy... just grimly desperate, more or less. Thanks!

My, besides all these up and downs these planned marriages are very mixed up and twisted: Merry to the sister of Diamond of Long Cleave, and Pippin to Estella Bolger herself! I hope they figure that out, with Pippin seeming to have liked Diamond, and not wanting to marry Estella, obviously. It seems Merry is interested in her. Also informative to see/learn how Pippin got pneumonia and his recovery somewhat from that. (Because I have read some of the Farry ones, like Farry and Ferdi go to Gondor, and wondered). BTW, when will you next update F&FGtG? Author Reply: When I was a beginning fanfic author, several already established authors took me under their wing, so to speak. One of these was Dana. She was wonderfully encouraging and patient with me. Her LOTR fanfic stories were vivid and dynamic, and she loved hobbits as much as I did (and still do). We even wrote a story together in a genre I don't typically write, horror, and I think it turned out amazing. We lost touch a few years ago, and I would love to reconnect and hear what she's doing these days. I hope she is well but I have no way of knowing. I miss her. Anyhow, Dana loved to challenge me, to push me out of my writing comfort zone. In one of our phone calls, I mentioned the idea of mixing up the canon pairings (and then having to figure out how to straighten them out again). She loved the idea of sticking Pippin and Estella together; in one of her reviews, she compared Jewels to "an enjoyable soap opera". She also kept asking me to write more stories about the two of them together. LOL! As you've already seen by the time I wrote this reply, Farry and Ferdi are making steady progress on their way to Gondor. Thanks!

Lin! So sad that Pippin has been brought so low. Not eating!!! *sigh* (((hugs))) MM Author Reply: You know a hobbit's in trouble when he stops eating. But things will get better, I promise. (((hugs back))) Lin

Ahhh… so that’s the problem! But Pippin’s already got a sweetheart …. That’s hardly fair of his dad. Merry, you’ll have to swoop in and save the day! ;-) Author Reply: Someone's got to swoop in, for sure! But since marriage contracts appear to be legal and binding (how annoying!), and Merry's not much of a rebel – he's more loyal and faithful than anything else – he might not be able to imagine a workable solution. However, there are others in the picture with lots of imagination and energy and nerve, so all hope is not yet lost, I'm glad to say. (Is that too much of a spoiler?)

So, Paladin would see Pippin married to Estella, would he? While Pippin is still remembering a certain farmer's daughter from the Northfarthing, although not with enough relish at the moment, I fear. Okay, Merry, it's time for you to waken to the realization that this is the one you are meant to marry, and to send for Diamond to tend to Pippin to reawaken him to life. Author Reply: Yes, Paladin is thinking of Estella's money and her family's influence, I think, in his continuing struggle to keep the Tookland going. At least it wasn't ravaged by ruffians. Hmmm. Your solution sounds very plausible!
