Gondor's Son  by Shireling

Gondor’s Son

Silent sentinel, eyes scan east

From windblown pinnacle of stone.

False night time wraps the day in gloom

Oppressing what remains of waning hope.

Lonely vigil of one who waits,

Though kin will grace these walls no more.

Beloved brother whose valiant sword failed

When horn called forth in distant land.

Steward now by fate’s mischance

And evil’s victory over pledge and hope.

Father’s disdain a wounding dart

That pierced deeper than a poisoned blade.

Destiny fulfilled with blood and honour.

Victory heralded by Eagle cry.

Victory shared by all who toiled

And welcomed King with crown and voice.

Seek sanctuary now in books and lore,

Rest sword-arm; battle calls no more.

Velvet cloak of memory to enfold

Golden Lady who shares your Heart.

Banish shadows to Waiting Halls.

Seek healing ‘neath the blossoming boughs.

Just reward for labours long: Brother,

Steward, Lover, Prince, stand forth.
