Sweet Arwen Evenstar  by Bodkin

Sweet Arwen Evenstar #

As sweet Arwen Evenstar sat stitching one day,
A sudden strange fancy made her want to play,
Nor father nor brothers would keep her at home
She’d go and steal Asfaloth and far would she roam.

So early next morning she rode off apace,
As she was fed up and she needed some space.
She pulled on her cloak, strapped her blade by her side,
And galloped off fast for a jolly good ride.

She came on her love and caught him unaware.
‘Are you good for nursing?’ he asked with a glare.
‘I’m ready,’ said Arwen. ‘This hobbit’s near gone.
’She found the Ringbearer all wasted and wan.

She drew the sick hobbit on Asfaloth’s back,
And swore she’d outride the Nine’s vicious attack.
So when Arwen Evenstar reached Rivendell’s ford,
She called down the flood on the evil Witch Lord.

The first days the Ranger kept shaking his head,
‘No nursing, young Samwise, can help him,’ he said.
But when Master Elrond had cut out the blade
He cried, ‘We have saved him and he will not fade.’

O then Arwen Evenstar watched the Fellowship go
On their way off to Mordor, while she had to sew,
’Til according to some she rode off to Helm’s Deep*,
And hundreds of orcs did from battlements sweep.

At last Arwen Evenstar, she reached the White Tower,
Where the King had returned now to take up his power.
The beautiful princess then gave him his new banner,
Becoming his bride in the usual manner.
