Requiem for Boromir  by maya_ar

I've always been moved by the account of how Boromir was laid to rest by Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli; and Faramir's story of seeing his brother borne away on the river is one of the most poignant moments in the books. This story is my imagined version of how Faramir might have finally learned the whole story of Boromir's brave ending, and how the Fellowship might have pronounced a final valediction. The song in Tolkien's original (readers will recognise the verse recited by Aragorn from the first chapter of the The Two Towers) gave me the opportunity to do a requiem in verse: Faramir, like Aragorn, would naturally be of the "lordly troubadours" of Gondor, as quick with a deft word as with a sword, or so I believe. My apologies for the shortcomings in metre and scan: an abiding love for the gorgeous poetry in LoTR must be my excuse.
