Looking at the genealogy tables it would appear that Paladin Took was 82 years of age before he became Thain. Pippin would have been 25 years old at that time. Up until then, Ferumbras III held the title. Nor was Ferumbras Pippin's grandfather, but a distant cousin, so the dynasty was not that obvious. Therefore, contrary to popular belief, (or many fics anyway) Paladin Took was an ordinary farmer when Pippin was born, and did not become Thain until after Ferumbras’ death. This story humbly attempts to resolve this dichotomy between what is written in Tolkien's Lord of the Rings and the average fan writers' perception and is a possible scenario enabling Paladin to become the Thain those many years earlier.
