Visions of Middle Earth  by WhiteLadyEowyn

I dreamed of the Shire...
Of the woods, the fields,
the little rivers.
Life's little simplicities
The same every day.

I dreamed of the words...
The ones spoke in
the dark of night.
By a wizard I have trusted
for all time.

I dreamed of the time...
When one that I love
the most
Said goodbye, vanished
and left.

I dreamed of my friends...
The ones that wouldn't
be left behind.
Of a conspiracy of hope
and fellowship.

I dreamed of the rain...
When a stranger came
to my aid
And brought friendship
unlooked for.

I dreamed of the night...
Of the wound brought by
deadly knife
And the dark images in
which I drowned.

I dreamed... that I
awoke in a bed in the
Last Homely House.
And found to great joy
a Wizard at my side.

I dreamed of the peoples...
Men, Elves and Dwarves
and friends
That vowed to stick close
and join in Quest.

I dreamed of the snow...
Cold, white, and harsh
Cruel mountain
The voices of the wind
Screaming aloud.

I dreamed of the darkness...
The everpresent night
Darkness Unescapable.
A friend was lost
Grief unabated

I dreamed of beauty...
Found after the sadness
Lady of Light
Giver of joy and gifts
and visions.

I dreamed of a parting...
When one trailed along
Determined
To not let me go alone
Into death.

I dreamed of a creature...
Wretched and vile
And pitiable
A guide along the way
Bound to gold.

I dreamed of a tunnel...
Heavy with dread and terror
A monster
A horrible cry of pain
then no more.

I dreamed of Elvish words...
Sung into the emptiness
An answer
The name of Lady so fair
From a friend.

I dreamed of a terrible weight...
pulling, pulling me down
Into the void
Carried on the back of friendship
Closer and closer.

I dreamed of running upward....
Toward the fire, the end
The power
Overtook me, overcame me
I turned.

I dreamed of falling.....
A scream, a struggle
Such pain
Then the light returned
Release.

I dreamed of peace....
Of a King, a celebration
Reunion
Peace began to escape me
Fading away.

I dreamed of a battle....
Kin against kin, and friends
Death
On the soil of my homeland
and Rebirth.

I dreamed of a home...
Only to find it left
to others
Those that will
never know.

I dreamed of a ship...
Another reunion, saying goodbye
to another
I said goodbye, and vanished...
And left.

Do you not know
of the love that burns for you in my soul
Do you not hear
The pounding of my heart when you are close
Can you not see
The light that shines for you in my eyes
Do you not share
The intensity of these emotions

Can you not understand
That my heart is consumed by another
Do you not see
The same light shining in my eyes for you
Do you not know
That you are fair and beautiful to behold
Do you not see
That the Sun sets you aglow

Do you not hear
The desperation and pleading in my voice
Do you not see
That I am begging you to let me join you
Do you not realize
That I would follow you to the bitter end
Do you not know
That I only wish to be by your side

Do you not see
The burden that weighs upon my shoulders
Do you not know
The words I speak are to protect you
Do you not hear
My heart, wishing things could be different
Do you not know
That I only wish for you to be safe

Will you ever know
That I will ride to battle, seeking Death
Will you ever hear
The words pass from my lips ever again
Will you ever see
The tears that fall from my eyes now
Will you ever feel
Any of what I carry for you

Will you ever find out
That thoughts of you were ever present
Will you ever know
That I stand over your bed, in silence
Will you ever feel
The hurt that I find at your own injury
Will you ever be told
That I brought you back from Sleep Eternal

Do you now know
The happiness that you have brought me
Did you somehow find
That frost that had frozen my soul
Do you now hear
The beating of my living heart
Do you now see
The light that shines in my eyes for another

Do you finally see
The caring and honor I carried for you
Do you now hear
The Steward of Gondor, asking to have you
Do I now find
The love shining from the White Lady of Rohan
Do I now feel
That my heart is healed from its guilt

In the darkness you came to me
Shining as a beacon in the stillness
Wind gentle upon your raiment
Pure white glowing on your skin.

Taken as I was by the vision
Need and duty pressed upon me
Fear and hope and much more
Falling into words spoken.

You pleaded with me to turn
From danger appointed, to fight
Alongside those of your lands
Knowing that my Blade was needed.

I could not tarry there, My Lady
Blessed as I was by your affections
My heart taken by another, Elven-fair;
I wished thee only happiness.

I rode away onto paths darkened
Never for a moment did I forget
The pain at our parting in the Shadow
Upon me now as you lie, still and broken.

How, My Lady, shall I heal thee?
The shattered arm only needs time
Will my skills be enough to bring thee
Forth into the world, unknowing.

Will you wake to despair?
I will leave you with your brother,
My thoughts, however, shall remain
Ever upon you, White Lady beautiful.

Frodo stood silently by the open window, watching Sam, Rosie, and baby Elanor play in the garden beyond. Love and loss filled him.

Even though Sam and Rosie had been exceptionally attentive, this day - of all days - he yearned to see Bilbo once more. Would the time ever come? A pain filled him, and he reached up for the wounded shoulder, to realize that the shoulder was not the source. It was his heart. Although not wounded by knife, it sliced through him just the same.

"I want to go home," he whispered against the wind blowing upon his face
