Gems of Arda Amarië’s Farewell My Finrod, why must you go? Why must you leave me and everything else behind? But I am asking empty air, for you are already gone, far from my reach evermore. I know the reason for which you tread into this shadow. Your “great” king Fëanor. I am bound to another liege, and though your father resisted, you wished to remain with your sister and your cousin Turgon. Indeed, blood is thicker than water. I do not hold anything against you. My heart still belongs to you, and always will, an unforgotten memory in my soul. Goodbye, my love. Goodbye.
Gems of Arda Two: Loss The sea was choppy and wrathful, roiling and crashing against the shore. The sky above was slate gray and flat. Gulls cried eerily overhead, circling like vultures over carrion. Maglor stood by the seaside, his feet bare in the cold sand, his hand bandaged and clasped about the Silmaril in his palm. His face was streaked with bitter tears, and the harp on his back was silent. Maedhros was gone. The last of his family, the last bit of love he'd known, was dead, resting at the bottom of some endless chasm. He flung the Silmaril out into the waves.
Gems of Arda Three: Brothers Curufin opened the door to Lúthien's prison, a bowl of gritty food in hand. She glared at him from beneath dark hair. He didn't like the thought of her eating it. "Huan, why are you here again?" he asked, catching sight of him curled up beside Lúthien. "He comforts me," Lúthien said, her voice tight.. "You would be free if you would marry my brother," Curufin replied lightly. "And you, smith?" she asked. "I know not." Troubled, he left the room. Would Celegorm forsake him once he held Doriath? Of course not, he thought. Celegorm loves me. But did he?
Gems of Arda Four: Dancing The dancers whirled majestically, their gowns and cloaks flowing around them. The room had been hung with bright scarves and pennants. But away from the dancers stood a bothered young Elf-maid, her dress crimped in her jealous fists. When the dance was over, she went up to one of the male Elves and tugged on his trouser. Yes, Artanis?" he asked, annoyed. She pulled him aside. "Why do you only dance with Amarië?" "Because I like her, sister." "Dance with me, Findaráto," she said. He gathered her in his arms, and danced only with her the rest of the night. |
