My goodness. That was quite something. Very suspensful. I do appreciate that you have shown Glorfindel's strength here. That poor elf is so often overlooked.

Nilmandra · 28 September 2003 · Chapter 17: The Ford of Bruinen

Shirebound, this might have been some of your best writing to date. You really captured the tension and anxiety of the moment, very on the edge of the seat kind of reading. And of course, it never hurts to have a shining fierce elf Lord in the midst. (the last line brought to you courtesy of Lord Glorfindel himself). I am truly enjoying this story, and am glad it is nowhere near ending.

Elentari · 28 September 2003 · Chapter 17: The Ford of Bruinen

wow...omg.. that was your BEST chapter yet! i really liked how you described how the wraiths where thinking after that part with Frodo... i loved your elaboration that Tolkien didn't really describe about! wow... very very enjoyable! can't wait for more! :D hanned le, ~Elentari

pebbles · 21 September 2003 · Chapter 16: Estel

Yay! Another new chapter. Another GREAT chapter. I like that you are having Frodo fight so against the influence of the shard. I hated in the movie that they made Frodo so wimpy, falling down all the time, and Arwen saving him. Book-Frodo was much tougher. I guess we'll just have to hope that the REAL Frodo Baggin will put in an appearance in ROTK. Keep up the great work. It's worth the wait for such great chapters!

Mysterious Jedi · 18 September 2003 · Chapter 16: Estel

Excellent, as always.

Nilmandra · 18 September 2003 · Chapter 16: Estel

This chapter had so much good stuff! It had Glorfindel, hobbits at their best - moving on, doing what is needed, Glorfindel, a little foreshadowing knowledge of Aragorn, a cute story from Estel's childhood, and Glorfindel! The healing skills of Elrond are known, but I admit I was fascinated that Glorfindel seemed to ease and strengthen Frodo as well. How interesting for Frodo, to see Glorfindel as he is on the other side - Caliquendi and having been born anew, the power near to that of a Maiar. I wondered if that power could be directed to healing, or if Glorfindel had training in that area. But, then in RotK, when Aragorn helped Faramir, Eowyn and Merry from the Black Breath, he then went out with the Sons of Elrond and they cured people into the night. Of course, being Elrond's sons, they had likely been taught too. Sorry, that was OT, just my musings. So, which one would Aragorn have picked to carry the Ring? (I do think Aragorn would have taken Frodo's life had Shadow been about to claim him, rather than leave him to that fate.) I think Merry. I have this incredible visual in my head of this mighty elf, a mighty ranger and three mighty-mite hobbits brandishing flaming sticks at the Nazgul. What a scene that will be!

Iris Sandydowns · 18 September 2003 · Chapter 16: Estel

“I know I’m… dying,” Frodo whispered. “It’s no use.” He shuddered as a fierce chill shook him. “Please, Estel… tell Bilbo…” I was so deep into the moment that when Frodo said those words it was like a fist squeezed my heart! This is an excellent story. You said this chapter was one of the longest ones you have ever written, but it flew by for me. Glorfindel’s story about young Estel and Elladan & Elrohir was just too funny! I think Glorfindel should tell more stories to entertain the hobbits while Frodo recovers in Rivendell. (hint, hint)

fliewatuet · 18 September 2003 · Chapter 16: Estel

Wow, this chapter covered about every kind of emotion I could think of. There was the lighthearted Young-Estel story (that I thoroughly enjoyed ... what would I give to see a green Elladan ... and a partially green Aragorn), but also the extremely dark topics of the discussion between Aragorn and Glorfindel. I shudder to think both of what Aragorn would have to do in order to ultimately safe Frodo from the shadow-world and what they are about to face once they reach the Ford of the Bruinen.

Elwen · 18 September 2003 · Chapter 16: Estel

I like the depth you have achieved in this tale. Your characters grow more three-dimensional with each new story. And you are keeping a string of tension running through it too.

trishette · 15 September 2003 · Chapter 15: Between Two Worlds

Yay, I have finally had full Internet access restored.. and now I get an extra half-hour per night from my Internet provider! *grin* Yes, I'm sure you figured out I'm back by now *grin* Anyhoos, I'm way off-topic, I'd better get on with my review. Yeah. Poor Frodo... it has to be very frightening with his nighttime vision disappearing like that.. for some odd reason I thought his day vision would decrease and his night increase... *shrug* Haha, Aragorn used to have little one as a nickname by Glorfindel.. perhaps that is the reason he now calls Frodo that? *smirks* “I watched him grow up,” the Elf continued. “Perhaps, as we travel, you would enjoy hearing about his childhood?” *raises hand* Oooh, ohhh, I wanna hear details of his childhood *giggles* I am strangely hyper for 10:34 at night.. then again I've always een more fond of night. Just an oddity of me. Ahh, well, I suppose I better go to bed.. maybe. (Sleep? Whjat's that? Does it taste yummy?) Night! Hapy writing!

pebbles · 12 September 2003 · Chapter 14: Facing Reality

I'm a little pressed for time these days, but I'm so glad that you have updated again. It makes it more fun for me when I can only get on the computer about once a week or so and all my favorite stories have updated! The bad thing is that I'll read until very late at night!

A! Elbereth · 8 September 2003 · Chapter 15: Between Two Worlds

Oh, such a magnificent writer. Attentive on details and dialogue... though I could ramble on and on about this. :) This makes me want to actually see how elves are supposed to look... okay, so maybe this also makes me want to go to M.E., heh, but I was instantly charmed by this chapter when you mentioned Frodo seeing 'two worlds'. That little phrase is somehow chilling and unique. Oh, you're just too wonderful at this, I hope to acquire a talent to writing as well as yours. Merry and Sam's characters strike me most about this chapter (besides Frodo, of course ;D ). Even though Sam is always taking care of Frodo and being gentle with him, in here he seems even more gentle, caring for Frodo like cracked glass and a burning fire at the same time, if you know understand me. ;) And, as always, your way of writing Merry is right on the dot of how I imagine him being like. Can't wait for more... ooh, will this end without the extraction of the Murgul Blade, or will that be included? Just curious. ;-D

Little Mouse · 8 September 2003 · Chapter 15: Between Two Worlds

Hey there, Shire! I'm still very much with you on this story, and really enjoying it. When you said you were including Glorfindel, I too, waited rather breathlessly for his arrival, and I loved it! You protrayed him beautifully, just as I imagined him when reading the books. Well done. Can't wait to find out what happens at the Ford and in Rivendell. (they get to talk to Legolas, right?) -Little Mouse

Hai · 8 September 2003 · Chapter 15: Between Two Worlds

I hope you don't take too much thinking ;) I want quick chapters! I like how you wrote each hobbits reaction to Glorfindel and how Pippin got right to what he wanted to know! Wonderful! Something I have appreciated about your stories is they are book based, I love the movies and all but I'm always pleased when someone keeps more with the books. Thank you for the chapter and as always looking forward to more!

Pearl Took · 8 September 2003 · Chapter 15: Between Two Worlds

I got the notice from ff.net, but the chapter wasn't up yet, so I came here. I liked that you had Merry and Pippin being a bit disappointed. Merry in the lack of numbers and Pip that it wasn't his hero, Gandalf! I just looked at the meeting with Glofindel in the book and Wow!, you are doing such a wonderful job of blending your stuff with Tolkien's! Marvelous!! Your stories are always such a joy to read!

fliewatuet · 8 September 2003 · Chapter 15: Between Two Worlds

I really loved your description of the different ways the Hobbits perceived Glorfindel as well as the different ways they greeted him. Merry's 'every word sounded as if it was the opening note of a song' was about the most vivid description of an Elf's voice I've read so far. But now I am curious as to the stories about Estel's childhood Glorfindel had promised to tell (given Aragorn's reaction to Glorfindel's suggestion, they should be ... interesting ... if, maybe, a bit embarassing for the poor Ranger).

Nilmandra · 8 September 2003 · Chapter 15: Between Two Worlds

Glorfindel is here! Excuse all silliness, but you know he is my primary muse and he is absolutely thrilled to show up in your story :) I love that Frodo can see him as he really is, but also fearful for that means Frodo is edging into the shadow world. I hope Glorfindel does tell the hobbits all about Estel as a child - that will provide hours of amusement and help them through the slowness of these last hours. I am sure the hobbits will fascinate Glorfindel too. I am also reading 'The Cursed Queen of Angmar', and the Witch-King definitely fears Glorfindel, whom he calls a mighty hunter that he does not want pursuing him. To be reading that, and then to have your Glorfindel mention the Witch-King (and knowing Glorfindel vanquished him from Angmar) just gives me a wonderful sense of the stories pulling together as different threads in Tolkien's vast world.

Nilmandra · 2 September 2003 · Chapter 14: Facing Reality

Now you have me thinking of all sorts of nefarious reasons why the wraiths didn't take the ring - did they want him to make it to Rivendell, because they hoped to take Elrond and Vilya when they gained control of Frodo? That would add a whole level of intrigue, wouldn't it?

Zebra Wallpaper · 1 September 2003 · Chapter 14: Facing Reality

“Not a chance,” Pippin huffed. “Never let it be said that a Took collapsed before a Baggins did.” “I refuse to collapse,” Frodo said fiercely. “So do I,” Pippin murmured. “Apparently it doesn’t matter if we’re tired, Sam,” Merry sighed. “Apparently not, Mr. Merry.” You do fantastic hobbit banter. Just fantastic. And I love that all the hobbits are getting some time in this story and not just Frodo or whoever. You balance that very well. Oooh, and Pippin with the trolls...very eerie.

Orangeblossom Took · 31 August 2003 · Chapter 14: Facing Reality

I love this exchange: “Not a chance,” Pippin huffed. “Never let it be said that a Took collapsed before a Baggins did.” “I refuse to collapse,” Frodo said fiercely. That is my brave Frodo and energetic Pip. *Sigh* Your excellent stories are always wonderful to read, Shire.

Lindelea · 30 August 2003 · Chapter 14: Facing Reality

Once again, an excellent chapter. I love the bit about Pippin and the troll, excellent foreshadowing to future events in the story. But the dog is barking, I must investigate, no time to leave more in this review. Keep writing! (but I don't need to tell you that, do I?)

Elwen · 30 August 2003 · Chapter 14: Facing Reality

I like the realisation dawning in this chapter. Frodo realising that he's not just "carrying" the Ring. But that he is "bound up" with it. Pippin realising that the world outside the Shire isn't a fairy story. That there realy are a lot more nasty things out there . . . apart from Ringwraiths of course.

fliewatuet · 30 August 2003 · Chapter 14: Facing Reality

Uh, about time I leave another review for one of your stories, I think ... been terribly lazy, I know. But the further this story evolves, the more I enjoy it. Even given the AU premise that Frodo knew Strider before the quest and that Strider did not have to overcome the initial distrust of the Hobbits (well, at least not of all Hobbits), the dark events at Weathertop could not be prevented. I like the way you portray the Hobbits' way of offering comfort to each other, the way they verbally (and, most likely, literally) push each other up that hill. But, until he had seen the Trolls with his very eyes, Pippin had obviously thought it all a game, more or less. I wonder how he will cope with the realization that the Trolls were for real, and, as well as the trolls, the rest of the evil creatures from Bilbo's stories.

Pearl Took · 26 August 2003 · Chapter 13: Mists and Shadows

shirebound, I could feel the wet and cold soaking into my bones. I'm glad you supplied Pippin to distract me as well as Frodo. You make me so proud of our brave hobbits and dear Aragorn. You are a wonderful storyteller! Pearl Took

Nilmandra · 24 August 2003 · Chapter 13: Mists and Shadows

I think one of the things that touched me most in this chapter, in addition to the wonderful influence Pippin has on Frodo - which is good to see. Gandalf and Elrond let him go on the Quest for a reason and you are showing a great one! But I was touched by how much faith and confidence Aragorn has in Elrond, that he can save Frodo. He knows without a doubt that they will be welcomed and the hobbits cared for, and that any chance Frodo has of healing will happen at his foster-father's hands. I like seeing your uncomplaining and fairly tough hobbits too. ;)
