What an ending! You were right - the epilogue does deserve to be with this story. Glad Aragorn gave Frodo's memories back - he deserved them. Thanks again for a wonderful story.
Author's reply
Thanks, frodo! It's been interesting steering the story towards this unique ending!

WOW! That was certainly intersting. I wasn't expecting Gandalf to steal Aragorn's memories! I didn't know that he even could... though of course if he can read them, then he can probably steal them as well. The thought just never crossed my mind.
Author's reply
I'm glad it was interesting! Thanks to Gentle Hobbit, I was able to end this story in a non-predictable way.

Janet,
A lovely ending from a true Hobbit lover.
I can imagine how hurt Aragorn would be to realise that Gandalf had hidden his memories, but imagine how awful it would have been for Frodo not to have had those memories to shore him up as he travelled to Mordor.
Thank you for a wonderful story
Helen.
Author's reply
Thanks, Helen. There *is* some hurt here, but also a lot of love -- I just *have* to have lots of love in my stories!

Wow, that Epilogue was quite unexpected, but a wonderful tie in of both 'Quarantined' and 'By Chance or Purpose' with the canon-events. Needless to say that I thoroughly enjoyed both stories.
Thanks for writing and sharing!

Thanks for sticking with the stories! I'm so glad you're enjoying the "Quarantined" universe.

· Chapter 25: Epilogue
That was an interesting epilogue - and something our dear wizard might do, if he thought it necessary.
It also made me think of how other parents felt about seeing their children go to war, into danger as they did. Aragorn was son to Elrond, and of course he would lose both son and daughter if there was success. Gloin saw his son leave; and rather doubt Thranduil received with gladness news his son was on this quest. Sam, Merry and Pippin - what in the world must their parents have thought? They were just missing.
Frodo though - he didn't have parents to worry about him. He had dear old Bilbo - and Bilbo let him go to Mordor, but then Bilbo would have gone! Hobbits are amazing creatures. And Aragorn - it is an interesting question to think if he could have let Frodo go.
My, this is all done! Congratulations on another great story and great finish!
So, what is next? :D
Author's reply
Thanks, Nilmandra! Every answer sparks a new question, doesn't it? (I love all your speculating.)
What's next... is a light story set about a year after "Quarantined", which I hope to begin in January. It'll be time for some anti-angst, by then!

Ahhhhhhhhhh. *sighs contentedly*
That was a lovely ending . . . tying everything up in a neat bow. Thankyou for another great yarn. I hope you're going to start weaving another one very soon.
Author's reply
Thank you so much, Elwen. I do have a penchant for "neat bow" endings, however they're achieved!

I'm terrible about leaving reviews, but I just wanted to let you know how much I've enjoyed this story. You have a way with action/adventure that I really envy. It'll be sad to see it end, but I think I'll get over it as soon as your next story appears. Thanks again for a very entertaining story!

Ah, I love irrepressible Pippin! He understands - he doesn't, really, but for what little he can understand he is willing to risk. Sam is just wonderful to with his protection of Frodo, and Merry as well. All of their motivations are so clear - and really - when one thinks of all the meanings in Lord of the Rings it is a story of love. Love of friends, of good, of what is right, of sacrifice and duty. I like how you have captured that so well in the hobbits and Gandalf and Aragorn.

The strength of our dear hobbits! They wonder they engender in those in their tale and in us. It should come as no surprise to anyone that they have inspired such wonderous stories as yours. I look forward to the last chapter - and to the next marvelous story to come from the heart and mind of shirebound.

· Chapter 23: The Council of Elrond
Hi Janet
Lovely to find a new chapter.
I can imagine 'your' Aragorn being horrified that Frodo should take on the burden of carrying the ring...he must have desperatly wanted him to be safe back in the Shire.
...and Sam sussing out that they had hidden protectors was a lovely touch.

Even if I don't manage to review on a regular basis, I am still reading and enjoying your story. This chapter had some nice links to 'Quarantine' and your brief description of the Council of Elrond itself was marvellous. No re-telling of a well-known tale, but a brief glimpse into various people's heads.
And, of course, every Hobbit was smitten with Arwen's appearance ;-)

Smitten hobbits! Now you have me wondering if Bilbo was any better when he first met Arwen! Telling Frodo to remember his manners and poor Sam nearly falling head over heels...I loved it.
I like how you covered the council - not retelling what Tolkien did, but showing a different POV. Poor Sam must have been bewildered! And I love that the dwarves were far from Legolas, although that just makes me laugh when we realize the undying friendship between such unlikely people that developed between the elf and the dwarf. Wonderful, wonderful. Will you take this story through the start of the quest?

Yay! You read my review! For some reason it is as if sweet hobbits are snuggling with me. I knew someone was going to have to start wearing green again in the House of Elrond. Can't wait until the next chapter, In which there is a council. I am going to try to write a hobbit story here on SOA. Hopefully the lore hobbits approve of it and they don't frown upon me. You, hobbits, pointy ears, and lembas bread have inspired me.

Janet,
Lovely to see Frodo woken up so gently, surrounded by all the people who mean so much to him and who care for him so deeply.
And he thinks it's all over!!!!Don't you just wish you could magic the Ring away and save all the heartache.

Oh, I love your Elrond and twins! "No pain will reach him" No, indeed not, not if Elrond can help it.
Merry and Pip were wonderful, I love Pip thinking to comfort with food immediately. But now a turn for the worse! Poor Frodo, after feeling better for just a little while now he again feels awful. Well, I do love all the comfort going on :-)

Hi, I just finished reading your story. I really enjoyed it! I haven't read Quarentine yet. I wanted to see what you did with this one because I have been reading Budgielover's "Out of All Knowledge". Yours is very interesting, expecially because Budgielover hasn't gotten the shard out yet. I really enjoyed the Green Elladan story:-)Very funny! Anyway, Keep up the good work! I will be waiting to see how fast you let Frodo recover.

Hi. I am new to this website, and to fanfiction in general. I would just like to say, that if your story is anything to judge by, I have been missing out. Your dialogue is believable, your characters have kept the personalities gifted to them by J.R.R. Tolkien, and your obvious talent as a writer is astonishing. OK, now that I have said everything formally that I wanted to say, GREAT JOB! I love this story, as well as Quarantined. It is so sweet how they all seem to care so much for Frodo. And I thought that the movies left out the strong relationships that were so obvious in the books. To see them in FanFiction is so awesome, especially when Aragorn is put into the mix. I always wondered why Frodo seemed to trust 'Strider" so easily and completely. This story gives a plausible explanation. Update as soon as you can!

There are so many things I love about this story! But what really makes it special is the care and compassion that flow between the characters. The special bond between Frodo and Aragorn lights up like a beacon, and Sam's confidence in Aragorn is so touching.

oh wow... wow... what a chapter... with Aragorn calling Frodo back just made me say "awww" so much... wow... :-0 this key chapter couldn't get better than that part since Frodo means so much to Aragorn...
wait..i do have something to say/ask/affirm
lol (other than expressing deep wonder at the power of this chapter) =)
... I really enjoyed your creativeness in having Vilya and Narya be part of getting the shard back, but exactly what it did is still confusing to me... Elrond used Vilya in conjunction with Gandalf's Ring to help in both trying to find the Ring and strengthening Frodo while they go through the process of delaying the fading...
did Tolkien mention anywhere these rings have the power to do this, or is this a creative thought by you? it's just quite an amazing twist you add of using the Ring to aid in finding the shard... and also the timing... if Frodo's life functions were slowed down, there's so much danger to him since he's so weak already... so i guess that's how Narya comes in, right?
i'm glad that you didn't dwell on the whole surgery and cutting part since i'm always cringing with those parts in other "between Book 1 to Book 2" stories. hehe :p
Great job Shirebound!
Good luck with the next chapter...i can't wait till Frodo awakes.... (wait, but are you covering till then? more hobbit interacton till then? i hope we see some of Bilbo too, poor soul)
Thanks so much!

A wonderful chapter, as always. I especially loved your explanation of Aragorn's 'gift' to call back those who are fading. And as far as the effect of cliffhangers is concerned: Of course I know that you will not let Frodo die. It's the 'how do they save him' question that's exciting!

Nice touch, having Aragorn call Frodo back from the beyond - a bit of foreshadowing for what he will do when the eagles bring Frodo to him in the future. I think we will all be happy to have five hobbits to feed - this had to so very trying for them all to watch. And I also like a little foreshadowing for the sons of Elrond too, knowing of the aid they provide at the Pelennor.
