LKK · 9 June 2004 · Chapter 13: The Task of my Kindred.

Aragorn -- my first thought was that he might be a Gondorian, but I changed my mind on the last, highly informative, sentence. A very atmospheric piece, Avon. Quite visual in its descriptions. I could picture the moment clearly. One of your strongest drabbles, I think. :)

Author's reply

Thanks! I have the worst trouble trying to beat down my description addiction when I write drabbles. I'm sure it's very good for me, though ;-) Avon

LKK · 9 June 2004 · Chapter 14: Responsibility

Nice, Avon. I think you're right. You would have had hard a time pulling a drabble off with this, but it works fine as a double drabble. The ending was good. Merry seems the type to hide his deepest emotions behind a gentle reprimand.

Author's reply

Thanks, LKK. Yeah, I just couldn't squish it into a hundred words. Actually I'm finding the 100 word limit more and more frustrating lately - think I've been writing too many drabbles. Avon

daw the minstrel · 5 June 2004 · Chapter 14: Responsibility

I had to think about the title of this drabble and its relation to the content. I can see that Merry is relishing the fact that for a little while at any rate someone else is keeping him and Pip safe. And yet he still can't surrender responsibility for Pip, right down to whether his face is dirty.

Author's reply

Hi Daw, Yeah, I don't think I managed to get on paper what had hooked me. What I was trying to show was that Merry had suffered more during their hard times because he had had to see Pippin - little cousin Pippin - suffer, and now his enjoyment of their safety and comfort is much increased because Pippin is afe and has those comforts. I need sometime to look at this again and see if I can get more of that into it. Cheers, Avon

shirebound · 5 June 2004 · Chapter 14: Responsibility

I don't care if your drabbles are single, double, or triple -- I love 'em all!

Author's reply

*grin* Thank you! A happy author, Avon

Bodkin · 5 June 2004 · Chapter 14: Responsibility

Ahhhh. This is lovely - and so true as a protector/protected relationship.

Author's reply

Thank you very much. I was writing this as a birthday gift (wouldn't be likely to write Merry off my own bat) and it took me while to find a 'hook'. Eventually Pippin and how Merry would have wanted to protect him was it. Avon

shirebound · 28 May 2004 · Chapter 13: The Task of my Kindred.

I love your drabbles so much. You set mood, emotion, scene, time, action all with almost no words. Marvelous.

Author's reply

Thanks, Shirebound. I like this one because it wrote itself fairly effortlessly and normally it's like wearing too tight shoes as I beat off all the extra words ;-) Avon

Elanor1013 · 19 May 2004 · Chapter 11: The Prince of Golden Flowers

This one in particular really struck me. I love the last line. Beautiful writing.

Author's reply

Thanks, Avon

Periantari · 13 May 2004 · Chapter 12: ’Peering in the water as the dark eve fell, I caught him, Gollum.’

wow..wonderful interpretation of how Frodo might've seen Gollum...the drabble flows exteremely well~ very interesting point of view about it!

Periantari · 13 May 2004 · Chapter 11: The Prince of Golden Flowers

Lovely~ very good job..i always like drabbles/stories about Glorfindel =)Love your last line ~

Author's reply

Thank you, Periantari. Avon

Lindorien · 27 April 2004 · Chapter 12: ’Peering in the water as the dark eve fell, I caught him, Gollum.’

I like these last three, Avon. Very evocative. You do well with few words. Its a talent.

shirebound · 27 April 2004 · Chapter 12: ’Peering in the water as the dark eve fell, I caught him, Gollum.’

Another gem. What a long, tedious, dangerous journey that must have been (for both of them).

Antigone Q · 22 April 2004 · Chapter 11: The Prince of Golden Flowers

Oh, Avon! This is just amazing!

Author's reply

Gosh, thanks, Antigone. ;-) Avon

Hiro-tyre · 22 April 2004 · Chapter 11: The Prince of Golden Flowers

I love Glorfindel of Gondolin. This is a very nice drabble. Remember the Lord of the Golden Flower indeed.

Author's reply

Thanks, Hiro-tyre. Avon

LKK · 22 April 2004 · Chapter 11: The Prince of Golden Flowers

A very fitting tribute to Glorfindel. I liked the fact that you turned the events of the past into a lesson taught to a young child at the end. It gave the drabble an unexpected twist.

Author's reply

Thank you. I would never have written this if someone hadn't requested it as a birthday present and I really struggled to find a way in - until finally the child turned up. Avon

shirebound · 21 April 2004 · Chapter 11: The Prince of Golden Flowers

Wow, you pack so much power and emotion into such a small space! Is this about Glorfindel (the first one)?

Author's reply

Thanks, Shirebound. I can't see this one clearly at all atm so feedback helpls a lot. Yes, it is Glorfindel #1. Avon

shirebound · 4 April 2004 · Chapter 9: The Mortal Road

That's incredibly powerful! Your drabbles are amazing.

Author's reply

Wow, thanks, Shirebound. Cheers, Avon

Elentari · 20 March 2004 · Chapter 7: Into the Old Forest

ooo very nice =) i really like this POV by Pippin! =) thanks a lot~

Author's reply

Thanks, Elentari. I like little Pippin. Avon

Marigold Gamgee · 20 March 2004 · Chapter 8: Tidings of Death

Awww.... an actual nice scene between FAramir and Denethor. One rarely sees one of those....

Author's reply

Thanks, Marigold. It did come from a request for a drabble showing a functional Faramir-Denethor relationship. Avon

Marigold Gamgee · 20 March 2004 · Chapter 4: Fire and Ice

This one's even harder to tell who it is.... Merry? Boromir? I like the descriptions of the cold.... "ice-cold fire" and all that...

Marigold Gamgee · 20 March 2004 · Chapter 3: 'Smeagol, who is now called Gollum, has escaped.'

Ooh.... another intriguing one- Boromir this time, right? It's getting harder and harder to figure out who the speaker is, though that makes for some nice ambiguity.

Marigold Gamgee · 20 March 2004 · Chapter 2: In the Mines of Moria

Now that's kind of scary. You've touched upon an interesting point- "Do mortals live always in this silence?" Very thought-provoking, and rather unsettling to think about.

Marigold Gamgee · 20 March 2004 · Chapter 1: I Will Take The Ring, Though I Do Not Know the Way.

Aww.... sad, quite sad.

Jay of Lasgalen · 20 March 2004 · Chapter 5: Stars for Elendil

I still love this drabble, but I don't like to think that the twins chose mortality, however convincing you make it. But whatever happened, they were together. Lovely work. Jay

Author's reply

I don't want them to choose mortality either - but I don't want them to leave M-e either. I need option C ;-)

Jay of Lasgalen · 20 March 2004 · Chapter 8: Tidings of Death

I like this, especially the end. 'My only son'... poor Denethor. Such grief could have turned his mind, but it's still no excuse to treat Faramir the way he did! I like the link between the brothers. Jay

Author's reply

Thanks, Jay. I have a soft sopt for Denethor. Avon

Grey Wonderer · 20 March 2004 · Chapter 7: Into the Old Forest

I like this one. (I will be as old as them, I swear) That line is so very Pippin. I enjoyed all of these Drabbles, but this was my favorite.

Author's reply

Thanks, Grey Wonderer. Hobbits aren't my first love but I do have a real fondness for Pippin - mybe it is because I'm the youngest of five ;-) Avon
