I loved it, Chigger. I didn't get a chance to read it over Christmas break and when I finally got a chance you had completed it so I read it in one fail swoop. You never sounded corny. It was very sweet and tender. I hope I can find someone like Ceorl and live Hilirian's story. The only bad thing is its over. Keep up the marvelous writing.

Thanks, Lisbeth. I'm glad you were able to finish. (By the way, I think that's "fell swoop".)
I'm with you 100%. I want Ceorl, or Eradan, or Belecthor. Any of them will suit me fine. If you're wondering, Eradan's the star of All Is Fair in Love and War, if you haven't started that one yet. It's almost finished. As a matter of fact, it is finished, I just haven't posted it all yet. ;)
My "marvelous writing," as you put it, will continue for some time, thanks in part to Grey Wonderer who keeps raising plot-bunnies and giving them to *ME* to take care of. :) I have four more stories in the works. (My burners are all taken up, front and back. I don't know which ones to work on! O_O)
Thanks again!

I have enjoyed every miniute that I have spent reading your stories. You have introduced a Hobbit person to the world of men quite nicely. I also would be lost without your reviews of my stories. I always look forward to what you will have to say. Keep writing, I have you on my list of alerts so that I don't miss anything new.
Author's reply
Hopefully, my next story will begin its posting process sometime in the near future. I have most of the beginning chapters written and the rest more-or-less planned out, but I still need to proof-read them. :)
I, too, enjoy your stories and love reaviewing them. I used to be all Elves, because I was around Coriel, but then I began branching out and found the Men a lot more interesting (as far as writting about them goes), and then I started reading your stories, and now I'm interested in pre-quest Hobbits. So basically, I have no preference anymore, but I don't think I'll be able to write about anyone other than Men. :)
Thanks again for all your reviews. :D

Chigger, this is perfect! It Lets us know how happy they are and how wonderful their lives are. Now I may get attached to the children and have to have a story about them. I love the chatter-box, Harding and his quiet brother, Widfara together. Think they would be at odds and yet make a strong pair!
Oh, found a small spelling problem , ( with a filial kiss ) I am guessing this was a typo? I know how you are when it comes to correct spelling!
Author's reply
I love little kids, and I just had to put them in. :) I'll have to mull the idea of a story centered around them. I hadn't thought of that. But yes, Harding and Widfara are one of those pairs that find each other weird, and can't understand each other, but they'll grow up to be a rather clannish family, if you get my meaning. If you take on one of them, you better be prepared to take on them all, even Eowyn. ;)
As to "filial," here's your word of the day.
filial - adj.
Of, relating to, or befitting a son or daughter: filial respect

Nice. Very nice. Interesting, convincing people, romance deftly carried off. Only one suggestion: Aldor's monologue in Ch 6 would probably go better if you used simpler language.
Author's reply
I would love to use simpler language, but I don't think that's really how they spoke. You know, you can't stick in contractions or very much slang, which is hard, and you have to use the words of the day. So even some words that I found in the thesaurus wouldn't work because they weren't used in the right time-periods. My older brother thinks both Coriel and I are idiots and too devoted to detail, but that's just how Coriel is, and living with her for fourteen years has made me that way too. :)

What a lovely end to a nice story. I do hope you will write another one soon.

Working on one as we speak. But I don't think Rohan or any of her people will make an appearance. Mostly Gondor and one or two Elves.

I am so glad that you included the part where she asks Belecthor what he thinks of everything. I enjoyed the relationship between them. It is nice to read about a close, happy, family. There is also a great deal of humor in this chapter which I love. The part about having withstood many charges when he is warned he might be knocked down when she greets him was priceless! I enjoy these characters very much and hope you do more with them. Also, throughout this story, I have enjoyed Legolas's friendship with Ceorl's mother. Take care and keep writing.
Author's reply
Hirilian and Belecthor are very close. They were the only two kids for about two years. Then Morwen was born. Therefore, while being close with Morwen, too, they share a special relationship. I just hope Belecthor doesn't run off to Rohan after she gets married. :)

· Chapter 16: I Shall Always Be Here
He was startled by Narion who had pulled away from the family to bid Ceorl farewell in private. "Ceorl, my boy," he began, "I know how hard this parting is for both of you, but I can see that you both understand the necessity of it. She is young yet and I am only a worried father, watching his children grow too swiftly for his sentimental old heart’s content.
Can I tell you how much I love the father in this? I know I have mentioned it before, but thought that it would be alright to repeat myself!
Author's reply
I'm glad Narion has a fan besides myself. I was hoping he would come off, not as the bad guy in the story, forcing the two young people to wait in agony, but rather as the loving father he is. I'm just overjoyed to know that it worked. :)

I think that this chapter was wonderful practice for Ceorl, Captain of the Riddermark, lots os "I do's" said during the ceremony so he will be ready for the wedding. Just hope the bride is getting a chance to practice.
I am ahppy to review and to read your stories. I never fail to be entertained by them. Until I started reading your fictions, I hadn't given much thought to the humans in all of this, but I do now.
Author's reply
Don't worry about Hirilian. Women being what they are, she no doubt already has the entire wedding planned out in her head and she's got her lines memorized. :) Ceorl's probably going to wait until the day before to even think about it. :D
Glad you enjoy them. I'm now working on two more stories which you have inspired. You said Belecthor should have a girl friend, and so I'm currently working on that. The next story to go up will be centered around Morwen, though. She's cute. :)

Ah, and I thought they were going to get married in this chapter. Oh well, I suppose they will in the next. :)
Author's reply
*OK, here come some minor spoilers.* I'm going to pull a YOU. I know nothing about weddings, so I skipped that entire ordeal and they will already be married in the next chapter. But it will also be the last chapter. :( I'll be sure and post it tomorrow sometime. ;)

· Chapter 16: I Shall Always Be Here
The first thing that sprung to mind when Narion was talking about love withstanding the test of time was Chapter 2 of Children of the Commoner, where Boromir III asked Eowyn II to wait and be sure she wanted to spend her life with him in order to make sure it was nothing more than a desperate crush. This is slightly different, of course, but I think you've captured the elements of love fairly well.
I'll be looking forward to seeing the next chapter. I'm afraid I still haven't thought of a good opening for the next chapter of CoTC myself, but hopefully I'll be able to update soon.
Author's reply
If Ceorl, as Hirilian pointed out, could love her even after his first impression, I doubt it's a desperate crush. :)
I remember reading that chapter knowing that, of course as all happy stories go, she would eventually marry him, but "when" was the question. Since then, the story has progressed rapidly, and I'm looking anxiously forward to the day you get the next chapter finished. :)

· Chapter 15: Promotion
Well, the ceremony was certainly different from what I would expect, but it's certainly not anti-canonical, either. One thing, though, is that the King would probably not ask if anyone had any objections to Ceorl being a captain, because if there were objections, than it would show in the face of the public that the King made a mistake in choosing him, which wouldn't do to well for public relations, if you know what I mean. :)
I look forward to seeing the next chapter.
Author's reply
I'm glad the ceremony didn't come of as terrible. Like I've told you before, I dislike the fact that most Rohirric "ceremonies" are rather informal and toned down. :)
Next chapter should be up very soon. I just got done re-reading it and it might go up today or tomorrow.

· Chapter 14: Chosen
Belecthor needs a girl firend of his own. LOL I liked it and it made me think a bit. Just after becoming engaged to a very important man's daughter, the offer of a Captain's position? Any connection in the works or has he earned it on his own merit? While her father seems to like him, I wonder if he might like him better in a higher station.
Author's reply
Like I told EomerofEastfold, I made him a captain simply because *I* liked him and *I* wanted him to be a captain. ;) But no, it was not any of Narion's doing (as far as I know). :)
As to Belecthor's girl friend, I have a loose idea and even tried to put it into a short story, but it was later chunked because the plot was horrible and certain parts of it followed Louis L'Amour's book just a little too close. (Louis L'Amour being my favorite Western author.) Therefore, all I know is that he does get married, as does Morwen, but I know her husband's name at least. :)

· Chapter 13: May the Powers Protect You
A ring with the help of Prince Legolas? Inspired! Her father is a wonderful character. Very strict, but very fair. I like him.
Author's reply
Surely a Prince of Elves would be better suited to pick out a good ring that a Man of Rohan, right? ;)
Narion was, actually, my first OC. (Coriel helped with the name.) Coriel wanted to come up with Faramir's descendants and so she came up with Narion's wife and kids. Then I took them and ran with them, coming up with Ceorl, his parents, his kids (and Hirilian's of course). So really, this story would never have been here without Coriel's *UMPH*, but she's not too happy with what I did to a lot of her chacters. :)

I couldn't get here for a few days due to Christmas issues, but it was worth waiting for. I am so happy that she loves him enough to stay with him. It was short, but it said all that it needed to say. Another great chapter!

Glad you enjoyed it. So many of my chapters seem to be rather short, but then, it's easier to write them that way. ;)

· Chapter 14: Chosen
That must have been some impressive fighting then to be promoted to captain after one battle. :) Actually, I'm guessing it's because he managed to find and save Belecthor during the fighting, right? In the Medieval Period, if a squire saved the life of a knight in battle, said squire automatically attained the right to knighthood, if memory serves me correctly.
Anyway, I'm glad he got promoted. At least that way he'll be able to provide for Hirilian better. Sometimes, though, the way people say things or act it makes it seem like Ceorl is in his late teens rather than a mid-20 year old man.
Well, good chapter all the same. :)
Author's reply
I'm glad you could come up with a logical explaination. In truth, I will admit, it was simply blatant favoritism. :) I suppose saving Belecthor is as good a reason as any. (And better than some, such as the aforementioned favoritism.)
As to the way people treat Ceorl, what can I say? After all, I did put a note at the bottom of this chapter, didn't I? ;) Perhaps it's because Rohirric Men seem to live longer than modern Men. How long did Eomer live? A long time, I can tell you that right now. :) Poor Elfwine . . . hardly got any time as King because his dear Dad wouldn't die! ;)
Anyway, thanks again for all you do for this story, Eomer. It is very appreciated.

· Chapter 12: Are You Sure?
It certainly was an enjoyable chapter, but what to say, what to say. Hmmmmm. You didn't venture straight into the stereotypical male with Ceorl, which was quite good. I like how he is worried about how much her life would change if she married him. Using today as an example, it's much easier for men with secure financial futures to speak of the concepts of love and marriage. Good men, whether one will believe this or not, worry MORE about the well-being of their wives and children than they do themselves. I'm very, very happy, you didn't portray Ceorl a selfish jerk. Men's hearts are actually extremely difficult things to understand, even for me. :)
Author's reply
I'm glad Ceorl came of correctly. I give Hirilian everything I want, and I most certainly don't want a selfish jerk. :) Also, with a Dad and brother like mine, I haven't really been exposed to selfish jerks, so I wouldn't know quiet how to portray one. Not that I would want to or anything. ;)

I liked the fact that they let him bring the dog inside with him. Thought they might make the pup wait outside. Now the big scene between the young lovers?

I say that every Royal Household has royal hunting-dogs, and if they can get in, so can an Elvish Wolfhound. Especially one as protective as all that. :)
The aforementioned scene will be up today.

· Chapter 10: A Brother's Love
I'm glad she shared her secret with her brother and I also hope she tells her parents. She will need their support if this illness continues.
Author's reply
I didn't know how to put that in there, but between this chapter and the next, she did approach her parents and they now know all about it. I'm the kind of kid that doesn't want to leave home or rebel against my parents in any way. Therefore, neither do my characters. So the entire family knows of it now.

· Chapter 9: Reunions and Recuperation
I am starting to worry. Hope Legolas brings back help of some kind.
Author's reply
You must remember that the Elves know almost nil about how to heal Men, and Elrond has already cleared out. Therefore, things must be taken step by step with this. The love of a strong-willed mother may be all Ceorl needs.

I think the puppy might steal the lead away from Ceorl. :) In any case, it is good to see that he is finally awake, and I certainly wish to see what is going to happen next.
Author's reply
I've been dying to get a wolf-dog and so I decided to give one to Ceorl. Why not? Still, Beleg's part will remain at a minimum in order to preserve Ceorl's place as the lead character. :) Thanks for the review.

Short, but sweet. :) Hirilian's character does seem quite different from when she first encounters Ceorl, and it was hard to imagine her in tears like that. Then again, that must be what happens when you're in love with someone. :) How long until Ceorl recovers?
Author's reply
Ceorl is still in bed, but his fate will soon be known. :) I'm glad you liked it. I, myself, have never been in love and I was hoping this chapter would not come off as corny since I know almost nothing about that which I write. ;)

Very interesting, though I'm not so sure the Rohirrim would simply forsake one of their wounded like that. I suppose, though, I shall have to wait to see what happens next. Thank goodness your updates come swiftly.
Author's reply
Let's look at it this way. They didn't want to leave Ceorl just lying there, but when you get a bunch of strong-willed women pulling you home, what are you supposed to do? Therefore, poor Ceorl and the poor horses were left all alone. I'm sure if the wives and daughters weren't there, Ceorl would have been taken home right away.
Next chapter will be up soon; but I'm still waiting for YOU to update. :)

Better and better. I can't wait for the next chapter. Here they are on their way home and you think everything is going to be fine and then, bang! He has a fever and doesn't know his own friends! Don't wait too long to update. Again, I must mention Fréa as I love that animal more in each chapter. You must have your own horse or horses.
Author's reply
Yes, we have been the proud owners of four different horses. The first two were a learning experience. The second two were better, but still difficult and *very expensive*! We had no idea it was so hard to keep a horse's hooves sound! Gee whiz! But, I'm sad to say, that we no longer have any pets (except one three year old brother). :)
I'm glad you're enjoying my little tale. I really had no idea where it was going at first, but now it's mostly planned out, so the next update should be soon. :)
